Staff exodus in Van Drew office after party switch

Source: Politico

The aides in the New Jersey congressman’s Washington office wrote Van Drew’s decision to become a Republican “does not align with the values we brought to this job.”

Five senior aides to Rep. Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey resigned on Sunday as the lawmaker formally prepared to switch parties, stating they were “deeply saddened and disappointed by his decision.”

The aides in Van Drew’s Washington office wrote in a joint letter to his chief of staff that Van Drew’s decision to become a Republican “does not align with the values we brought to this job.”

“Sadly, Congressman Van Drew’s decision to join the ranks of the Republican party led by Donald Trump does not align with the values we brought to this job when we joined his office,” according to the letter, which was obtained by POLITICO. It also states that “Trump Republicans” have worked to “aid and abet Trump as he shreds the Constitution and tear the country apart.”

The chief of staff — Allison Murphy, who worked with him in the state Senate — is not expected to leave. But there could be additional staffers who decide to leave this week.

control of the House.

Is there a way for someone on DU to EXPLAIN to people why said control is much much much much more important that any single seat holder?

In this case there may be no way to avoid it but in ALL cases when possible HOLDING the seat is the most important thing, but I dont think everybody understands WHY!

but keeping the seat is all that matters, too bad many folks dont understand that or why.

I wonder if he felt he could not vote against it as a Dem because of the overall WAVE of yes's and fear that Nancy might not be able to excuse it away, not sure.

Either way, if we lose the seat next year and too many more, we lose much more than that, dont we.

After all Trump has not done a 180 from back then and in fact he has doubled down not to mention we now have the whole attempting to use the power of President to extort a foreign country for political dirt on a potential rival for the Presidency.

Should we take back impeachment so he doesn't switch parties?

In any case this is his problem not DU.

It was a republican district because of Rep. LoBiondo, not Trump. I didn't agree with LoBiondo's politics but he did a lot for the district they say. Plus he was a local guy born in the district. He had Democratic and republican support and that's why he held his seat for so long. As for Van Drew, it was Democratic voters who put him there, not repubicans. If the district was a full-on republican district he would have lost. The republicans here have no love for Van Drew and the crap he's trying to pull won't work.
