China attacks US Space Force as threat to outer space peace

Source: Associated Press

Updated 4:12 am CST, Monday, December 23, 2019

BEIJING (AP) — Rising space power China on Monday attacked the newly created U.S. Space Force as a “direct threat to outer space peace and security."

Foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told reporters that China is “deeply concerned about it and resolutely opposed to it."

“The relevant U.S. actions are a serious violation of the international consensus on the peaceful use of outer space, undermine global strategic balance and stability, and pose a direct threat to outer space peace and security," Geng said at a regular briefing.

China's space program has advanced rapidly since its first crewed mission in 2003. In a report last February, the Pentagon asserted that China and Russia have embarked on major efforts to develop technologies that could allow them to disrupt or destroy American and allied satellites in a crisis or conflict.

Are future presidents bound by previous presidents agreements? They used to be. Dump doesn't think so.
They should be.

whereas a ground launched ballistic missile has to travel thousands of miles. There is a possibility of shooting down the latter weapon, and very little chance of stopping one from orbit -- especially if it's armed with a multiple independent reentry vehicle (MIRV). A constellation of 100 space missiles would ensure one is within striking distance of any significant target at all times. I would think that would give pause to anyone living downhill from space.

At some point someone smarter than me will propose this concept to someone who can make it happen, and then Cold War II will begin.

Years ago I read about a proposed orbital weapons system that was nicknamed "Rods from God." The basic idea is that you have a satellite with many large, missile-sized metal rods, such as tungsten. You simply release the rod so it'll drop on the target area. The impact would be incredibly destructive, given the mass and speed of the rod, but with no dangerous fallout byproduct to contaminate the area afterward.

Pretty damn nasty, but not quite as horrific as nuclear weapons, in my opinion.

before we are fighting other countries in outer space. No wonder we are finding massive space probes from outer solar systems swinging by our planet.

they've been conducting ASAT weapons tests for a number of years now, they've briefly blinded US satellites a number of times.

IMO, China should just STFU and practice what they preach.

China and Russia have already been working to weaponize space, and we've all been working on plans for such a thing for decades. The idea of space being some weapon free peaceful safe zone has always been a pipe dream. Someone was always going to proceed with implementation, forcing the issue.

Of course Trump, even when he is right about something on the surface level, has an extremely childish view and attitude when it comes to what he envisions and execution. He's always been rather unintelligent, and seems to have regressed significantly more as he has aged.

who probably drives his military advisors nuts as he demands to meet Chewbacca and go for a ride in the Millennium Falcon, is going to start a space war with China.

Poor fucking Donnie Shit for Brains. He's sees himself as Captain James Tiberius Kirk, but the rest of the world knows he's just Harcourt Fenton Mudd.
