CHRISTIANITY TODAY SUBSCRIPTIONS ROSE AFTER OP-ED CALLING FOR DONALD TRUMP'S REMOVAL FROM OFFICE, MAGAZINE SAYS
BY HUNTER MOYLER ON 12/23/19 AT 1:32 PM EST

The editor-in-chief of Christianity Today said in an interview on MSNBC that the magazine has received enough new subscribers to more than make up for the ones it lost after publishing a controversial op-ed calling for the removal of President Donald Trump from office after his impeachment.

Mark Galli, who serves as the top editor of the evangelical magazine founded in 1956 by eminent preacher Billy Graham, spoke about the subscriptions Monday on Politics Nation, the MSNBC talk show hosted by the Reverend Al Sharpton.

In the interview, Sharpton, himself a Baptist minister, asked Galli what the impact of the op-ed, published Thursday, has been on the magazine.

"On the plus side, although we've lost hundreds of subscribers—let's be frank about it—we've gained three times as many subscribers," Galli answered. "So I think overall, at least [in] the world we live in, it's been affirmative."

Remember the "failing New York Times"?

Coming out against DFT is good for business.

Too bad Komrade Zuck can't see that.

now that Dirty Don has been impeached. They still have the same agenda of anti choice, anti civil and human rights, and imposing their religious views on everyone. They are just looking for a 'cleaner' politucal champion for their causes. They probably think that Pence fits that description.

only because support of him for their agenda is becoming bad PR for them. They will embrace some other vile RWer who is superficially more socially appropriate, but also a threat to the nation's civil and human rights.

The problem is that anyone whose career involves a paycheck generated by an Evangelical church or church organization, which accounts for most of the self-proclaimed leaders among them, is at risk to speak up against trump. But there is growing opposition and a core of Evangelicals who by principle are against Trump and won't push a radical social agenda.

Want to bet the main thrust of that magazine in 2020 will be why the Democrats will be terrible for all their goals? Want to bet that this very senior person will retire and the argument is that Gd has used flawed people to achieve good ends in the past and Trump is Gd's will. (The religious right is already saying just that! )

None of our candidate's come close to being as flawed a human being as Trump, but with that argument, they are willing to ignore that Trump very likely is a cruel, sociopath because - they are being told and seeing - that he is a "tool" to get "good" things done. Obviously, it means closing their eyes to things - like kids in cages and his entire bio.

They may have lost Evangelicals and gained Episcopalians and Quakers.

I mean, it's clear the editor who wrote the article that peeved Trump off felt that the "King David" metaphors were either insane or should be applied literally -- remember David was publicly cursed by God after Nathan the Prophet revealed his private sins, and lost his throne as a result.

But there are Christians who actually do care about people other than the unborn --- as Dave Barnhart, a Christian himself, said, they're the easiest group to advocate for when you truthfully have no love for people who breathe.

And hopefully some of them write for CT.
