Disney characters say tourists inappropriately touched them

Source: AP

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Walt Disney World employees who portray Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Donald Duck each filed police reports this month claiming they were inappropriately touched by tourists.

The woman inside the Mickey Mouse costume went to the hospital with neck injuries caused by a grandmother patting the character’s head, while the employees wearing the Minnie Mouse and Donald Duck costumes were groped by tourists, according to Orange County Sheriff’s Office reports.

The incidents come after a 51-year-old man was arrested in November after an employee portraying a Disney Princess told investigators he groped her breast while getting a photo taken.

“Everyone should feel safe at work, and we encourage Cast Members to come forward in any uncomfortable situation,” said Disney spokeswoman Andrea Finger in a statement. “We provide multiple resources to protect our Cast Members’ well-being, including on-site law enforcement officers who respond, and are available to them, if needed.”

most of the Performers at all of the Disney Properties. Having had a Family member as a Cast Person at a Disney Park,we heard the Horror Stories,Family members friend was attacked and suffered a Vertebrae break as a result of a Overly Large Lady tackling this person and causing the breakage. Snow Cones and Ice Cream cones thrown at Street Performers is a common thing.

and they can't respond to it at all. Disney does keep a couple officers on-property and they do escort people out, things like that, but with all that, predators home in on characters. They always look for vulnerable people.

It's actually been going on forever. Punching them, kicking them, throwing things at them, etc. It's not actually new. Not even the groping.

but I have nothing against them, as long as it’s adults all around. But it’s hard to believe this stuff spills over into Disneyland characters.

There's no respect for anything, including the things that attracted them to the place/ From Disneyland to national parks, it's what they do. They come to destroy whatever it is. Respect is beyond them somehow.

And, if you actually read the article, as well as what other CMs say about this happening, you'll know it is almost always 60+ men. Boomer men. Not Gen Xers or Milennials. BOOMERS.

This blaming people other than who actually did it is such a Boomer trait.

So, Ok Boomer.

but I'll play along. So you're asserting that boomers are in general more entitled and less well behaved in public settings than their counterparts? Not sure I can get behind that. Been to a sporting event recently? Movie theater? Concert? National park?

Tellin' ya, the whole world is full of boy scouts -- except the boomers of course. Wicked nasty!

When I was a cast member, some gang member pulled a knife on "Snow White" because she refused his advances.

There is a reason why the characters are close to exits and are escorted....and why Disney has plain clothed security guards.

fair years ago. She got paid pretty well for it, but it was a hot, hot, sweaty job. I put the suit on once and did the walk she normally took. It was awful.

Anyhow, after the first day, she told me that she had been grabbed, kicked and otherwise assaulted while wearing that suit on the job. It was, like eight feet tall with a huge peacock tail. She had limited maneuverability. So for the rest of the fair, I accompanied her on her job, walking a short distance from her costumed character. When someone started to do something that was dangerous to the character, I stepped in and stopped them verbally.

What was amazing to me was how many drunk assholes objected to me telling them to knock it off. They'd start arguing with me, saying things like "What do you care what I do to the big chicken?" I would step up and say, "There's a person in that 'big chicken.' It's my wife." I'm a big guy with a big beard, and everyone backed off right away when I did that. Not a thought in their stupid heads, though.

I think all costumed characters like that should have an un-costumed escort with them at all times. People are really, really stupid. Someone has to back them off, or someone will get hurt. Anyhow, she finished out the fair with me as her escort, but never wanted to do that again.

And, most character interactions are now at a controlled area, but people -- especially the 60+ men doing most of this as per reports -- still are disgusting and entitled.
