Trump threatens to slap sanctions on Iraq 'like they've never seen before'

Source: CNBC

President Donald Trump threatened Sunday to slap sanctions on Iraq after its parliament passed a resolution calling for the government to expel foreign troops from the country.

Tensions in the Middle East spiraled last week after Trump called for a U.S. airstrike in Baghdad that killed a top Iranian general, Qasem Soleimani.

Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, the U.S. president said: “If they do ask us to leave, if we don’t do it in a very friendly basis, we will charge them sanctions like they’ve never seen before ever. It’ll make Iranian sanctions look somewhat tame.”

“We have a very extraordinarily expensive air base that’s there. It cost billions of dollars to build. Long before my time We’re not leaving unless they pay us back for it,” Trump said.

The president added that “If there’s any hostility, that they do anything we think is inappropriate, we are going to put sanctions on Iraq, very big sanctions on Iraq.”

I'm suspicious there are no cooler heads left in the WH to temper him. He's well and truly now surrounded himself with only those who fear him and refuse to go against him, or agree with him wholeheartedly. The GOP in US Senate is in the same camp as those left in the WH. None dare cross him for fear of reprisals, and others see their lifetime goals being achieved if they let him run his course.

I may be being fatalistic, but it seems as if the worlds worst nightmares of Trump in office are coming to fruition.

President Idiot Boy!

Iraq is a sovereign country, and if they chose to toss US troops out, that's their prerogative!
What possible reason would that lead to provoke you to "sanctions like they’ve never seen before ever"?
Because they defied your utter Bull Shit from the past few weeks?

Like; bombing installations in their country, manned by their citizens, without consultation?
Or, assassinating a foreign head of state (general) in their country, without notice, OR it seems
the backing of US/International law? (Still waiting to see the evidence of a "Imminent" threat!)
which is the basis required to make this action lawful. He may be a "bad guy", but we can't just
murder him... "cuz"..

It's too bad you want to deflect from your impeachment issues, and would love to start a war to
get votes here in 2020... However, you're being too cute by half! Everyone has your number!

I saw an article where Iraq even though with what's going on won't allow force to be increased past the current 5,200. So the forces getting sent are going to places like Kuwait. If we aren't training to go after isis what is the purpose of keeping 5,200 troops sitting ducks to rocket attacks and spread out over the country. I can't see this current situation lasting that long.

Wait until the tankers start getting block or attacked, then the prices will go out of site hurting us economically, just what putin wants to do for revenge . trump and republicans are compromised by putin, and this will generate huge revenue increases for putin, which he'll use to undermine us even more with bribes and intel to use against them.

Trump’s billionaire buddies would be thrilled because they’ll make tons of money in a war and Trump thinks he’ll look “strong”—his favorite word. In reality, Trump is a weak man because he let jealousy of Obama’s Iran nuclear deal make his decision to withdraw from the deal, even though it was working.
