Rep. Duncan Hunter will resign from Congress on Jan. 13

Source: Washington Post

Rep. Duncan D. Hunter will resign from Congress effective Jan. 13, two congressional aides with knowledge of the move said Tuesday, more than one month after the California Republican pleaded guilty in federal court to misusing campaign funds.

Hunter submitted his letter of resignation to congressional leaders Tuesday, according to the aides, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the matter.

The six-term congressman is scheduled to be sentenced in March. He faces a maximum of five years in prison, although he is expected to serve less than one year. Hunter and his wife, Margaret, were charged in August 2018 with using more than $250,000 in campaign funds to pay for personal expenses including family vacations, theater tickets and school tuition.

The lawmaker was stripped of his committee assignments but continued serving in Congress and won reelection in 2018 after initially pleading not guilty and denying wrongdoing. His legal situation became more precarious, however, after his wife pleaded guilty last June to one count of conspiring with him to spend campaign funds for personal use. As part of the deal, Margaret Hunter agreed to cooperate with prosecutors and testify against her husband.

Thumping out the rhythm. Although, in the movie, I thought they portrayed May as doing that, when Deacon was the bassist? I'm confused.

I’d bet even money the moronic Deplorable base would re-elect him in 2020 if his name was on the ballot.

Reconciliation of the parties is a pipe dream people - not ever gonna happen this century.

you are correct. They would reelect him in a heartbeat. As it is Issa or Carl DeMaio will likely take his place. DeMaio is a real tool, even worse than Issa.

his district includes large swathes of SanDiegoTucky, complete with hills and hollers (and lotsa drugs).

I maintain that many if not most of his voters never figured out that at some point they were voting for Jr., not Sr.

and they know DeMaio and Issa better than I do. They said Issa is smarter and does work with Dems sometimes. DeMaio is a lying, immature idiot, sort of like Hunter.

Once Hunter’s resignation is official, Governor Newsom will have 14 days to call for a special election to fill the seat.

The ass, Hunter postponed his resignation to avoid a March special election. Even money says the seat stays vacant until January 3, 2021.

AFTER he pled guilty - with full knowledge he spent their campaign contributions $s on 5 mistresses, jewelry from Italy and, most memorably, $600 to fly a pet rabbit across the country, etc.

Not hopeful asshole GOP drumpf voters will see the light before November.

I’m surprised he and the GOP didn’t just plan on him serving out his term in prison.

That really isn’t much of a stretch for them anymore.
