Nadler announces he will miss parts of impeachment trial as his wife undergoes cancer treatment
Source: CNN
Washington (CNN)House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler on Sunday announced he will miss parts of the ongoing Senate impeachment trial of President Donald Trump to help take care of his ailing wife.
"In December, following the House Judiciary Committee markup of the Articles of Impeachment against President Donald J. Trump, my wife was admitted to the hospital where she was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. She has undergone surgery and is taking further steps to address the spread of the cancer," Nadler said in a news release Sunday.
"On Monday, I will be in New York with her to meet with doctors, determine a path forward, and begin her treatment. I am sorry to miss some of the Senate Impeachment Trial, which is of critical importance to our democracy."
Nadler added that he plans to return to Washington late Monday and that he appreciates "the support of my colleagues and staff as I take this time to be with my wife and begin the long fight against her cancer."

(83,792 posts)I wonder if this had something to do with his collapse not long ago. Stress, pressure and worry for his wife. They had to have been dealing with this with her Doctors before she was admitted and diagnosed.
I wish the Nadler's the best going forward.

(5,810 posts)Im sure the stress and worry about his wife, coupled with the Impeachment, are taking a toll on his health. His priorities are in order. His wife comes first. He, no doubt, will be trying to fulfill his duties to the Congress but any time he needs to spend with his wife is completely understood. I hope he is taking care of himself during this difficult time.

(220 posts)My thoughts and prayers are with you and your wife while you and her are going through this horrible time with her illness. You are doing the only thing you can do by being by her side. You have already proved your value to our country many times over.
Thank you for your service.
But don't give up hope that your wife can recover from one of the worst forms of cancer. I know how scary it can be. I was working over 500 miles away from my wife when she called and told me the Dr.s had found a tumor on her pancreas and they wanted to operate the next morning. I drove all night and got to the hospital before the operated but I was a nervous wreck and did a lot of praying and worrying that night. I turned out the tumor was not malignant.
Just keep in mind the recoveries that Justice RBG made over years. She first had colon cancer when she was almost 70. Then almost 10 years later they discovered she had pancreatic cancer. She recovered completely from that, she then had a stent put in a artery near her heart. After that she broke 3 ribs in a fall. When they did a follow up exam of the ribs they found cancer nodules on her lungs. They successfully removed all of them. Then in August of last year it was revealed she had just undergone 3 weeks of intense radiation for pancreatic cancer again. But in Jan. of this year she announced she was cancer free.
She is almost 90 years old but a strong will and lots of prayers and positive thoughts from all over the country gave her the strength to beat the cancer. I don't know your wife but I know how strong willed you are and if she was married to you for all these years she must be strong willed also. And I promise you she will receive lots of prayers and positive thoughts.
Keep up your strength and take care of yourself and that will help her lot.
