UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) A judge denied bond Wednesday for a Maryland police officer who has been charged with murder after being accused of fatally shooting a handcuffed man in his patrol car.
Judge Robert Heffron Jr. said he found convincing evidence that Prince Georges County Police Cpl. Michael Owen Jr. posed a danger to the community. Owens defense attorney had asked for him to be freed without bond.
Investigators didnt find any evidence of a fight between Owen and William Howard Green before Green was fatally shot Monday night in the front passenger seat of a patrol car, police said in a report on a murder charge against the officer.
That finding contradicted statements on the night of the shooting by a department spokeswoman, who told reporters that two independent witnesses said they saw or heard a struggle of some sort coming from the patrol car before they heard loud bangs.

(5,124 posts)I was wondering why the judge denied bond. I thought it was unusual for an officer involved shooting. I don't know if this is the reason but IMO- this would be compelling reason - This is his 3rd shooting. 2nd fatality!!! Most police officers go their whole careers without shooting anyone, he's managed to shoot 3 people, killing 2 of them.
The lying is not panning out. No drugs involved. Video shows Green sitting calmly.
The circumstances of this other fatality seems odd
Greens death is the third shooting Owen has been involved in -- and the second fatal, on-duty shooting, the Post said. Owen fatally shot Rodney Deron Edwards, 35, of Landover the night of Dec. 17, 2011, after Edwards, who had been lying in some grass on the side of a roadway, threatened him with a revolver after Owen stopped to offer him assistance.

Now my question is, were those other shootings investigated or did the dept just take his word that this is how it happened?
