A federal appeals court on Wednesday ruled that the Department of Justice (DOJ) could withhold funding from cities and states that refuse to cooperate with the Trump administration's crackdown on undocumented immigrants.
A three-judge panel on the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously overturned a district court judge's ruling that the department lacked the authority to impose immigration-related conditions on certain funding.

"Repeatedly and throughout its pronouncement of Byrne Program statutory requirements, Congress makes clear that a grant applicant demonstrates qualification by satisfying statutory requirements in such form and according to such rules as the Attorney General establishes," wrote Raggi, who was appointed to the court by George W. Bush. "This confers considerable authority on the Attorney General."

(4,341 posts)These lawyers who have become judges have spent money, time, effort into becoming lawyers, then I have to suppose they earned the right to be appointed judges just to follow orders from a corrupt group of thugs, why? why denigrate yourself in such a way? why risk having your kids and family hate your guts when they find out you are nothing but a tool? I cannot understand it.

(639 posts)This is a non issue, as grants are a major part of every budget. Do you think Trump would not cut funding, or attempt to, with this issue? He does not have access to the checkbook, and Congress would have to approve and grants, or changes to grants.
Trump loves to get people to react to something he CANNOT do. But we see too many people follow this as something that can actually happen. Talk about gullible and clueless as to how their government actually operates. Educate yourselves and stop believing everything as fact. Validate these things for yourselves, before you jump into the fray.
