Chicago Area Resident Tests Positive For Coronavirus, Cook County Department Of Public Health Confir

Source: CBS

CHICAGO (CBS) — An patient in the Chicago area has tested positive for coronavirus, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Cook County Department of Public Health.

The tests resulted in “presumptive” positives and will have to be confirmed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The patient is hospitalized in isolation at an undisclosed location, and CDC protocols have been implemeneted. The patient is from Cook County, officials said. It is currently not known how the patient may have contracted the virus. Also on Saturday, Loyola University in Chicago ordered all students studying in Italy to return to the United States by March 4 after an oubreak of the virus in that country. Those students will be required to stay at home for a 14-day medical evaluation period.

Public health officials are working to find people who were in contact with the patient in an effort to reduce the risk of additional transmission. The state will request the CDC deploy a team to Illinois for support.

and try to pick states with no reported cases, something which will fail spectacularly because his most ardent fans are like Dead Heads in the 70s, traveling the country going to all his rallies.

I've often wondered if some of them are the same people, I'm sure drug burnouts are well represented among his fan club.

many of these "fans" are paid, just like the original group there for the escalator fiasco. They advertised for attendees, paid $50 each to show enthusiasm for Don the Con.

I also know there are people who follow these things around because they're addicted to the high of the pep rally format. That guy in Florida who was busted for sending fake bombs to Democrats a couple of years ago was one of them. There is a weird subculture out there and they will be ranting about Big Dummy into their pureed peas at the old folks home. Cults don't die easily.

And yeah, he's got ex cheerleaders to lead the chants out of context.

and running really low on peanut butter. C'mon, people, there are workarounds for TP, even if they're not all that pleasant. Peanut butter is the stuff of life, along with chocolate, which they were also low on.

People are weird.

It was just so weird to see the TP and peanut butter shelves nearly empty. Priorities are different out west.

Pretty sure he's stocking up.

Of course, I was pushing a cart full of cat, dog, and chicken feed for my animals, since I'd already stocked away 2 months of food in my pantry last week

12. The extra spending at Costco is not going to come close to supporting the economy.

People buying extra toilet paper and dog food is not going to come close to making up for people not going restaurants, movie theaters, flying, going to theme parks, shopping in malls, buying cars, going to concerts... the list goes on and on. And then if it really gets bad and schools & offices get shut down and people can't work, the economy will come to a standstill. That's why the stock market is cratering.

It was packed. We still have more we would like to get, but have a good jump on the preparations we hoped to make. Still need extra pet food, and cleaning supplies.

We got there when they opened at nine. TP, bottled water, Clorox and Lysol wipes were in a lot of carts.

It is currently not known how the patient may have contracted the virus.

So no clue where to trace it back to yet

Also on Saturday, Loyola University in Chicago ordered all students studying in Italy to return to the United States by March 4 after an oubreak of the virus in that country. Those students will be required to stay at home for a 14-day medical evaluation period.

All these students and others from Italy have to go through giant size Ohare airport . Seems like right there is another possible spread

i hope there are cdc trained folks to meet them at the airport.
and i hope the cdc team is protected unlike those who went to pick up that other group (maybe from a cruise ship? i forget)
