Coronavirus: Death Toll Passes 3,000 Worldwide As Second Person Dies In US

Source: The Guardian

The global death toll from the coronavirus outbreak exceeded 3,000 on Monday as South Korea reported almost 500 new cases of the disease and a second person died in the US. Covid-19 has now infected more than 88,000 people and spread to more than 60 countries after first emerging in China late last year. Indonesia, which has so far claimed to be virus-free, registered its first two cases on Monday.

More than two months on, most new cases and deaths are still confined to China, whose health commission reported 202 new infections on Monday – the lowest daily rise since late January – and 42 new deaths. Hubei province, where the outbreak has been concentrated, recorded 196 of the 202 new cases and all of the new deaths.

The death toll in China rose to 2,912, but it is also creeping up in other countries. Iran has the second highest number of deaths, with 54, Australia reported its first Covid-19 death over the weekend. Infections nearly doubled over the weekend in Italy – Europe’s hardest-hit country with nearly 1,700 cases.

Cases in the US rose to at least 76 with two deaths, both in Washington state. The second victim was a man in his 70s who died on Saturday in a nursing home where several other people are infected, local health authorities said...

NY state confirmed its first positive coronavirus test; governor Andrew Cuomo tweeted Sunday night that a woman in her 30s contracted the illness on a recent trip to Iran and was quarantined at home. According to the New York Times her home is in New York City.

Mike Pence, US vice president tried to calm criticism of the administration’s handling of the outbreak by making up the shortfall in testing kits. “We could have more sad news, but the American people should know the risk to the average American remains low,” Pence told CNN.

trump declared it a hoax, and claimed it was contained. Then appointed science denier and professional trump ass kisser pence to head up a hoax they claim Democrats are behind, around the world to hurt them getting re-elected. Wonder now how much of our money in the Treasury trump has Manuchin funneling to prop up the markets now? I'll bet that will be exposed soon too.

location and age and sometimes a pre existing, chronic health condition.

One of the people in Wash. was in their 50s and had a chronic medical issue.

Something tells me we'll be finding out more soon.

From a hoax trump, or is the real hoax you as the illegitimate President ? He always accuses others of what he;s done or is doing. His pattern is very clear , and telling.

From a government spokesperson just now.....

"It is not proposed to suspend any public event at the moment. We are in the containment phase".

But seconds earlier....

"In the group of Andalusia the origin of the infection has already been identified. Not so in the initial Torrejón group, in a religious group of that locality, and the situation of the Basque Country. One of the cases of Castilla- La Mancha has not been able to identify where it was infected"

And moments after....

"Cases without identified origin in Spain, we have now ten or eleven."

Translation, "we are in the containment phase now and have it totally under control except in those cases where it is a clusterfuck and have no real plans to do anything about it."

Typical of this damn country.
I'm taking the lead from my wife's work. A large international company with hundreds of employees from all around the EU. Pretty sure they will make more sense than the Spanish authorities.

I can see it hitting hard here by weeks end. Cases jumped from 30 to 115 in two days yet nothing to worry about.

I'm sure that germs can last quite a while on paper, and on coins. Money travels. If we do have a pandemic, will we be limited to credit cards?

that focus on what is known about this virus and surfaces of all types, and any transmission via paper currency.

I recall that 9 days was the general time frame for it to last on most common surfaces.

We need to know this impt. info.
