U.S. District Court blocks Michigan's Medicaid work requirements

Source: Michigan Live

A federal judge in Washington, D.C., has issued a partial summary judgment blocking Michigan’s new Medicaid work requirements, based on a higher court’s decision on similar requirements in other states.

Today’s ruling means Michigan cannot enforce the work requirements, which went into effect Jan. 1.

The decision by U.S. District Judge James Boasberg was termed a “great victory” by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer , who requested the summary judgment in a court filing last month.

Whitmer’s administration had previously urged the legislature to hold off on implementing the requirements while legal challenges were pending.

rammed through the work requirement before the fascist governor left office so he could sign it. Before today MI was the only state still enforcing the Medicaid work requirement.

while the Wednesday court ruling makes the program unenforceable, at least for now, the department has spent $30 million to implement the program — hiring staff, overhauling computer systems, creating new outreach for residents impacted by the law, and training consumer advocates at agencies across the state. In other words fascist republicans cost MI tax payers $30,000,000 for nothing. If I run into a fascist pig republican I will certainly bring that up. Sorry for spamming this thread but I am pissed.

I am seriously liking Governor Whitmer. This is why 2018 was an important election. I feel like Michigan is in good hands now if only we could rid ourselves of those republicans in the legislature who don't want to work with our new Dem leaders.
