New Jersey issues an 8 p.m. curfew to restrict travel and fight the spread of coronavirus

Source: CNN

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy issued a curfew Monday that restricts travel from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. to fight the spread of coronavirus.

"All non-essential and non-emergency travel in Jersey is strongly discouraged beginning tonight at 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. each day," Murphy said. "This will remain in effect for the foreseeable future. We want everybody to be home, not out."

In doing so New Jersey becomes the first US state to take such a step. On Sunday the US territory of Puerto Rico instituted a 9 p.m. curfew.

As of Monday morning New Jersey had 98 confirmed cases of coronavirus and two deaths.

Closing bars & restaurants yet allowing provisions for curbside & deliver options...what’s someone who works 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. to do?

What about delaying a healthcare worker on their way to work as part of a curfew check?

If it’s as bad as they believe; an overnight curfew isn’t going to do shit.

The person returning from a job will find the travel essential. The person doing delivery by car after 8 p.m. might be expected to curtail hours or have food delivery be deemed essential, at least until routines can be adjusted to schedule deliveries earlier.

Delays are part of the system at this point and should be factored in. Or, if it goes on long enough, some sort of placard placed in windows to facilitate checking. (With those forged the next day, to be sure.)
