Describing himself as a ‘wartime president,’ Trump invokes the Defense Production Act to marshal private sector against the coronavirus

Confronting twin health and economic crises, President Donald Trump announced Wednesday he will invoke emergency powers to marshal critical medical supplies against a coronavirus pandemic threatening to overwhelm hospitals and other treatment centers. The Senate acted on the economic front, approving legislation to guarantee sick leave to workers sickened by the disease.

Trump described himself as a “wartime president" as virus cases surged and the markets fell, and he took a series of extraordinary steps to steady a battered nation, its day-to-day life fundamentally altered.

Most immediately, Trump said he would employ the Defense Production Act as needed, giving the government more power to steer production by private companies and try to overcome shortages in masks, ventilators and other supplies.

It's a broad law. Unlimited money, resources for national defense. You and your business must comply with the law. Give them everything they want, or forfeit. The Fed will all but own major corporations, and we get $1k.

Gregory Mannarino is the author of The Game Is Rigged. How To Profit From The Coming Global Economic Collapse. Paperback – December 31, 2011

I found the following video best viewed at 1.25x speed, and the first 2 minutes are a bit slow to develop, but the rant is probably worth it, though it will leave you fearful. He states repeatedly that a 'coup' has taken place.

And he’s the opposite president, following the George Constanza Theory: if he thinks it’s the right thing to do, always do the opposite and that’s where you’ll find success.

...to retaliate against foreign adversaries who have been interfering in our elections via cyber warfare. And to strengthen our own position against further attacks. Not only did he fail to act upon this, he actively downplayed it as being a 'hoax". And as such, he has invited more of the same. This is how a wartime president FAILS in the defense of the country that he is sworn to protect!

to slap Trump. His tweet-yammering day in and day out, speaking at the podium, or running off of script... it does not matter. What comes out of his mouth only a sewer-diver could stomach. Yeah, I'd like to land one on him because he deserves it, every time he opens that narcissistic-misogynistic pie hole of his.

It would not do any good. I know that and thus I refrain from actual action, not like I could anyway. Trump is mentally tone-deaf to his own ignorance and the sycophants he surrounds himself with since the beginning. But, I can dream, can't I?

We'd damned well better be careful too, the one and only thing he's good at is manipulation, and he's damned good at that. We must never lay off of him, keep putting our posts on social media pointing out how he thought this outbreak was a joke until too late, how he withheld testing results in January to bolster his reelection, how he disbanded the pandemic response team, etc. etc. etc.

... Good God No.

I feel like writing a letter to my grandkids:

"I'm so so sorry. People like me (the majority, in fact) tried hard to leave you a functioning democracy and a functioning planet. But starting with the Bush/Gore election we had a coup enabled by the Supreme Court, then another coup in 2016. Someone (not the majority of us) had really longterm plans and goals, and the money and focus to bring it off. I hope that someday you can fix this, because try as we might our time on this Earth is passing -- for some of us, a lot sooner that we anticipated. With sorrow and all my love -- Nana"

"[G]iving the government more power to steer production by private companies" = the government controls the means of production = Socialism! Bet nobody on the Right will call it that.

Also, during the Korean War, the Supreme Court reined in the Truman administration when it sought to seize private property (steel mills). Will this Court do anything to limit Trump?
