Democrats warn of 'serious issues' with massive stimulus bill ahead of key procedural vote

Source: CNN

Washington (CNN)Congressional Democrats are digging in and warning of "serious issues" in the current version of a massive stimulus bill meant to respond to the economic fallout from the spread of coronavirus. It's an ominous sign ahead of a key procedural vote to move forward to a final vote -- even as negotiators have not yet reached a bipartisan deal.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Sunday afternoon pushed back the timing of the procedural vote from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. ET.

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer emerged from a Senate Democratic lunch on Sunday to say there are "serious issues" with the current proposal and negotiators would be meeting soon to try and iron them out.

Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren echoed that message, saying that there is "great unhappiness" in the Democratic caucus about the proposal as it currently stands. The Massachusetts senator cited the proposed $500 billion fund for distressed companies, which she complained lacked restrictions.

Are serving as a vedette screen for the phalanx Speaker Pelosi directs. Nothing she will not pass the House could become law. Even McConnell knows that.

actually entails.

Once the Repukes pass a Senate Bill, it will be full court press from Cheeto, the Corporate Media, and all the GOP Congresscritters to pass it, hollering that Nancy is 'playing politics at this time of great peril!'

She also has to protect her majority come November.

And if everyone in the country thinks they're going to be getting a check soon after this bill is passed, well ...

And note my expectation is that she will get everything she can. That is not the same as everything I might want. I am prepared to accept her judgement on the limits of her power, should what she can get prove less than my desire. I will certainly not regard that, should it occur, as indicating betrayal or weakness or complicity or any such pernicious nonesense.

In the early days of Japanese victory in the Pacific, when proposals for even grander conquests were proposed, a general stood holding his cup. 'This tea represents our strength,' he said, and dashed it out on the floor. 'You see it only goes so far.'

I don't think your characterization has proved consistently accurate.

"The children come first. At the end of the day, we have to make sure that the resources needed to protect the children are available," she wrote. "In order to get resources to the children fastest, we will reluctantly pass the Senate bill. As we pass the Senate bill, we will do so with a Battle Cry as to how we go forward to protect children in a way that truly honors their dignity and worth."

The benefits for the Captains of Industry are permanent pressed, it's the benefits for the people that may be wrinkles to iron out, those pesky useless eaters out there expecting socialist welfare bail outs and I bet they even want free bootstraps to go with that.

Do a separate bill then. Get that money out to workers now. Did the sick leave part go through yet? That at least would help getting next pay checks.

In a sign that Democrats may prevent the bill from advancing without changes, Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, one of the chamber's most conservative Democrats, said he will not vote to advance the coronavirus relief bill unless there is a deal that satisfies Democrats.

In addition, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sounded an ominous warning Sunday that she may not support an emerging stimulus bill that had been on a fast track through Congress this weekend and that has grown to roughly $2 trillion, according to two people directly involved in the talks.

Departing a meeting with the top four congressional leaders and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, Pelosi said there is no deal yet and that the House will introduce its own bill -- something that could significantly draw out the process to finalize legislation.

We need to stand firm on this. NO free money for those big business entities. Let them sell stock, get slimy banker loans using their assets as collateral, pass the hat from their largest investors for preferred stock, but NO free TAXPAYER money!

DU -- Call your representative and senator tomorrow morning. This needs to be loud and clear. Working people are going without food and medicine from no fault of their own.

Delta -- sorry it sucks to lay off your $300K / year airline captains. If they haven't saved enough from 20+ years of serious income, then too bad -- boo hoo. Let them experience what millions of Americans do every day -- go hungry. If your corporate finance geniuses didn't save any cash after buying back stock -- then you get to go bankrupt. Not sure how? Ask the Orange Turd how to do it -- he has plenty of experience in that.

Giving money to a casino? Get real. If they go bankrupt, someone else will buy the building and machines. Stockholders lose -- as they should.

Seriously, CALL YOR REP TOMORROW!!
