Coronavirus In Delaware: Gov. John Carney Issues Stay-At-Home Order As COVID-19 Cases Climb To 56

Source: CBS3 Philly

WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) — Delaware Gov. John Carney has issued a stay-at-home order as the number of coronavirus cases in the state rose to 56 with 11 new cases announced Sunday. The order will go into effect at 8 a.m. Tuesday and remain active until May 15 or when the public health threat is lifted. Carney is also ordering all nonessential businesses to close. Officials say six people are hospitalized with three critically ill. There are 39 COVID-19 cases in New Castle County, five in Kent County and 12 in Sussex County. Officials say the patients’ ages range from 14 to 80, with 30 males and 26 females. Officials say community spread is believed to be happening in the state.

“The presence of community spread shows that we all must take the danger associated with this virus seriously,” Division of Public Health Director Dr. Karly Rattay said in a statement Saturday. “For every person infected with COVID-19, they typically infect two to three additional people.”

Gov. John Carney announced Saturday the closure of all state beaches. Earlier this week, Carney announced the closures of all schools, gyms, movie theaters, spas and bowling alleys as Delaware is under a state of emergency. Carney says the state will offer several testing sites beginning Monday.

that the states in the region (NY/CT/NJ/PA/DE) are coordinating (they had signed an agreement earlier last week) with doing this.

Gov. Wolf in PA is supposed to give a statement at 6 pm this evening and I expect he may then announce the same (NY/NJ/DE all have that in place now but not CT yet that I can find).

There is a special issue of how many federal workers are in D.C. metro so that would need to be taken into consideration.
