China has concealed the extent of the coronavirus outbreak in its country, under-reporting both total cases and deaths its suffered from the disease, the U.S. intelligence community concluded in a classified report to the White House, according to three U.S. officials.
The officials asked not to be identified because the report is secret and declined to detail its contents. But the thrust, they said, is that Chinas public reporting on cases and deaths is intentionally incomplete. Two of the officials said the report concludes that Chinas numbers are fake.
The report was received by the White House last week, one of the officials said.
The outbreak began in Chinas Hubei province in late 2019, but the country has publicly reported only about 82,000 cases and 3,300 deaths, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. That compares to more than 189,000 cases and more than 4,000 deaths in the U.S., which has the largest publicly reported outbreak in the world.

Next Donnie Comrade, get out on some stage/podium and don't stop repeating: NO PROBLEM NO PROBLEM NO PROBLEM.
When caught, throw out several claims to the listeners, telling them it wasn't your fault and blaming who really caused the problem.
See which one sticks, and then concentrate on running with that as the truth......yelling it from the rooftops.
You could tell the people it was Hillary, Obama, Democrats, etc etc etc HELL, it could even be the Health Workers walking out the hospital's back door in a BLUE STATE HOSPITAL with all the ton's of supplies and selling them on the black market or ebay.......

(5,801 posts)under Obama, there was a CDC expert already IN PLACE in China, on a continuous basis, because of course it was only a matter of time until another potential pandemic surfaced. The orange turd recalled him/her and closed the position.

Until July 2019, the United States had a resident health adviser in China that consulted with Chinese health officials. That position was scrapped, Reuters reported, amid a chill in US-Chinese relations.
"It was heartbreaking to watch," said one expert.
Several US health experts told Reuters that the US could have gotten an early jump on the new coronavirus outbreak if the role still existed.
President Donald Trump's administration slashed a public-health position in China last year that could have helped US authorities spot the novel coronavirus outbreak before it spread across the globe, according to Reuters.
Dr. Linda Quick, a medical epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, was a resident adviser to Chinese health officials through July 2019, when she left the role upon learning it would be discontinued in September, according to four sources who spoke to Reuters.

(3,404 posts)Even if it is true, It is the state departments attempt to place blame on someone to deflect attention from Trumps mistakes.
Trump blames the worlds problems on a Obama just because it happened on his watch despite having any influence or not.
I remember the news story the 1st part of January and Trump did nothing for a month. ....and it was on his watch.

(1,242 posts)His somber tone this week was not out of reverence but out of fear. His pucker factor hit a new PSI level and his only plan is to make money and lower public expectations. There should have been very few deaths. Riding in with ventilators after 10's of thousands have died is like Custer sending a message to Sitting Bull that he was here to save Native American women and children. What an evil slob.

(90,787 posts)on the numbers coming out of China or Russia or certain other countries because he would know to assume those countries would lie about their numbers.
Lying is part and parcel to authoritarian regimes.
Only idiots - and/or other authoritarian-minded leaders - would think to praise the leaders of those countries and point to their numbers as a basis for how to plan for a pandemic.
The difference between an actual stable genius and an insecure, lying piece of shit.
Anyone with half of brain would have assumed China wasn't being honest.
But by pretending no one could have possibly known that - it makes it easier to blame others for your own stupidity and inaction. Your own incompetence.
But, but...China. They said...so, uh....it's not my fault. I don't take any responsibility.
Anyone think Angela Merkel trusted China's numbers?

(253 posts)And its also terrible what Donald Trump did to his own people in the early weeks of the U.S. outbreak by only thinking of his electability. He pretended the problem was much smaller than it was and lost precious time to combat this virus. He only thought about what was good for the economy and therefore himself and put the lives of his people at risk.
Well theres your tit for tat response. Yep, various governments have fucked up on purpose. Everyone happy now? This isnt going to get any of us anywhere right now. Perhaps the Administration should concentrate on catching up due to their lack of response instead of playing the blame game. That could come back on them and bite them in the ass.

Honor. "Face". Whatever the term.
People can be embarrassed by things that they can't control, and when it goes to something like "wet markets" it's even worse.
Word is that the Wuhan "fresh meat" markets are already up and running. Get your tasty bad and pangolin.

(855 posts)The models that suggest the action to take are based on figures released. You have to understand that the lies told by China about the severity of the situation are what caused the actions (or rather, inaction) to occur.
It has been a cover up, but not by the West. There's a reason Europe's models are based on Spain and Italy and not on what China did. It's because they're far more accurate.
Don't blame the firefighters trying to put the fire out - blame the arsonist that set fire to the block. What you are mistaking for a cover up by The West is all of that glorious Chinese communist party propaganda paying off to let them get away with it. (this applies to EU)
I do blame donald trumpanzee because he had time to see what was going on in spain and italy
