Pelosi creates watchdog panel for coronavirus spending
Source: Marketwatch
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday said she was establishing a bipartisan select committee on the coronavirus crisis, describing it as a panel that would provide oversight on virus-related spending. The California Democrat likened the new committee, chaired by Democratic Rep. Jim Clyburn of South Carolina, to a Senate panel during the World War II era that stopped waste and fraud in the national defense program and was led by Harry Truman. "What made sense then makes even more sense now," Pelosi said during a conference call with reporters.

(9,426 posts)Keep Ivanka tRump away from anything concerning $$$. She is being investigated for skimming several millions from daddy's inaugural celebration. Seems millions are unaccounted for, and SHE was in charge. She is likely busy right now, planning her next haul when daddy is re-elected. He had the smallest celebration, smallest crowds, smallest "celebrity" entertainers, yet took in lots and lots of cash from overseas.

(2,146 posts)The GOP ignores the law. They don't care if they break laws because they know there will be no repercussions, and, if there is any, they can tie it up in court for years. Put in immediate penalties. Like, if you are caught you go straight to jail, and go through bonding out like everybody else does. Make refusing to respond, holding back data, an immediate jail-able offense and create a team of law enforcement officers to go get and jail the offenders. Yes this is draconian, but if there is no teeth, there is no punishment that will "hurt" the GOP will keep right on with their lawlessness, like a bank robber who is allowed to go free after he caught robbing a bank. .

(17 posts)Trump's not going to be happy. I think he's already benefiting financially from it. I think he's dragging his feet on PPE etc so that a preferred vendor can gear up to the demand. He doesn't care if more people die as he has already shown. If he makes a lot of noise about it, he's guilty.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday announced the formation of a special bipartisan House committee to oversee the Trump administrations distribution of more than $2 trillion in coronavirus relief funds over the next several months.
The committee is Pelosis most aggressive effort yet to streamline the Houses efforts to hold President Donald Trump accountable for his implementation of the massive coronavirus response law, as well as to ensure that recipients of the historic taxpayer bailout use funds the way Congress intended.
Congress has taken an important step in meeting this crisis by passing three bills with over $2 trillion in emergency relief. We need to ensure those dollars are spent carefully and effectively, Pelosi told reporters in a press call Thursday.
Pelosi said the committee would not only oversee the three bills Congress has passed so far to address the pandemic but also any future legislation related to the virus. Pelosi has been pushing to move ahead quickly with a fourth coronavirus response package, an idea she again pitched Thursday, noting the record high 6.6 million-plus unemployment claims reported earlier in the day.
The panel will root out waste, fraud, and abuse and will protect against price gouging, profiteering, and political favoritism, Pelosi said. ..................................
