BUSINESS NEWS APRIL 15, 2020 / 10:45 AM / UPDATED 6 MINUTES AGO
(Reuters) - Best Buy Co Inc said on Wednesday it would furlough about 51,000 hourly U.S. store employees and that its sales dropped about 5% in the first two months of the current quarter, as the electronics retailer kept its stores shut due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The company said that starting next week, some corporate employees would also participate in voluntary reduced work weeks and furloughs, while its top management and board would take a pay cut.
Best Buy, however, would retain about 82% of its full-time store and field employees.
The company said sales grew about 25% during an 8-day period ended March 20, a day before the company announced its decision to switch to a curbside delivery model, as people shopped for work-from-home equipment, gaming-related products as well as products needed to freeze food.

(17,988 posts)With them this morning. During a storm something happened. Spectrum installed a new box, but it was the TV. Not very old either.
But I chatted with them about installation. They will deliver to your door. Can not install. May be the middle of May. Thank goodness I still have my older Vizio. slimline, and the picture is great so is the sound. Cost 3 times what the new one did.

(17,988 posts)Was one of the first Slimlines.. Bought it at Sears. Brilliant picture, sound quality. The new one never lived up to the Quality of the old one. I have a 21 inch that plays DVDs in the side. no extra equipment, just slide it in.

(12,409 posts)"press here" to tell 'em when you are at the store.
So I show up and try to press the link button. Nothing happens. Try again, and again, ----
guy shows up at door and says I have to move from the front of the store. Refuses to help with the link, or anything.
Fuck it. I go home. Text comes in saying if I don't pick it up by Friday, 4/17, they will return it to stock and refund my $. That works for me.
So I reordered it from Amazon. It will be here on Saturday.

(34,137 posts)The system the local store is using is flawless - they have numbered parking spaces. When you arrive, you let them know you are there and which space number. Someone brings out the package.
Well, at least that is the theory. I had to order a USB WiFi adapter (usually I have my computer hardwired, but right now it's in a different room) and named my husband to pick it up since he was headed into town anyway. At the BestBuy my husband pulled into a parking space. Before he could open the app on his phone, someone was at his window, asked the order number, and brought the item to put into his trunk.
Maybe their app wasn't working and they were taking a proactive effort to deliver the products to customers. Whatever, it took less time for my husband to pick it up than it would have for us to go into the store, locate the item, and go through the checkout line.
