Trump Calls on People to 'LIBERATE' Virus-Stricken States With Democratic Governors
Source: The Daily Beast
In a disturbing new series of tweets, President Trump on Friday urged Americans to liberate three U.S. states that are run by Democratic governors amid protests over coronavirus shutdowns. The three tweets took aim at Minnesota, Michigan, and Virginia. LIBERATE VIRGINIA, and save your great 2nd Amendment.
It is under siege! one tweet read. Trump on Thursday refused to criticize protesters in some states, including Michigan, who are flouting stay-at-home orders and social-distancing guidelines amid the deadly pandemic. I think theyre listening, I think they listen to me, he said. They seem to be protesters that like me and respect this opinion, and my opinion is the same as just about all of the governors.
Trump has gone back and forth on who should have the ultimate authority to reopen states economies. On Monday, he claimed he has total power as president, while on Thursday he insisted governors would be able to tailor [an] approach that meets the diverse circumstances of their own statesthe same day the U.S. deaths from COVID-19 hit a record 4,591 people.

(4,522 posts)There was a person (forget her name) talking about authoritarians / fascists:
They don't joke - they keep taking more and more power. Normal people tend to think they will "settle down" or are just bluster but they not - it's how they continue to keep and grow their power.
This is some sick, sick stuff happening... scary times.

(740 posts)that by the time most American wake up its to late they have the power and will use it to keep you in your place. Look at the nations that the Nazis overran ( and those who opposed Hitler in Germany) and the price they paid when some of the citizen fought back. The time to stop them is now!!

(8,844 posts)you notice he didn't speak of the First Amendment "Freedom of Speech" in addressing Virginia, he intentionally mentioned the "Second amendment". People could let him slide on quoting the 1st, but by him quoting the 2nd, there is no way........
And look at the video of his Trumphumpers showing up at the Michigan Capital, many fully armed. I think they were ready and primed to be martyrs for their cause when the police moved in to stop them. I'm sure the Governor told them to stand down, and to not provoke them into firing "the shot heard round he world".....
I can only imagine that the police had a number of snipers positioned out of sight, in case they were needed.
Putin is directing this from afar, staying squeaky clean, directing Trump and the RepubliCons do the work.
This morning's tweets are nothing less than an INSURRECTION: an act of revolting against civil authority or an established government. And an act of SEDITION: incitement of resistance to or insurrection against lawful authority...........
I think we are about to see a repeal by Trump and the RepubliCons, of the Posse Comatadus Act, Bush/Cheney tried to repeal it and failed. Or maybe they will just skip that Rule of Law and go straight to "their interpretation" of Martial Law?????
They are turning a national/worldwide crisis into an opportunity to speed their agenda ahead.
And of course allow Jared and his Trailer Trash Barbie a wide open opportunity to Grift to their little hearts desire...

But not a single Repug will hold Fat Donnie accountable for his inaction during the beginning of the GOPvirus. They have bought into Trump's "It's all the WHO's fault -- they probably let it happen intentionally, or are responsible for it in the first place" narrative.
Meanwhile, more Americans die. I hope the Democratic governors hold their ground. I know our governor -- Newsom of California -- and Cuomo will continue to tell him to go fuck himself.

(3,145 posts)He's ginning up anger toward Dem governors (and by extension the party itself) in the hopes that it will:
1. Divert blame from himself
2. Sow seeds of resentment toward the Democratic Party in hopes of turning enough people to flip or keep battleground states in his column.
I don't care if they have truth on their side, these governors need to hire some world class spin doctors to craft a successful message to fend this off because, once it's burned into folks brains that the D's did this to them, it's going to be near impossible to deprogram them by November.

(6,208 posts)Right now, Trump's only chance to get reelected is to ruin the election.
One approach is to create violence and chaos in Blue States, using his base as a weapon to do this, much as Hitler used his brown shirts in Nazi Germany.
His ultimate goal is to force early opening of the economy and watch the second wave wash the nation just before the election.
That's why they don't want widespread testing. High infection numbers will make it harder to force a reopening of the economy. The later the economy reopens, the later a second wave of infections will come in, and that could possibly happen too late to damage the election.
The Republicans still think a light election turnout can help them win battleground states and capture enough electoral votes to win reelection.
They're willing to trade tens of thousands of American lives for a victory in the election.
I think Wisconsin was a test for the concept of light turnout. I believe the Republicans are adjusting their tactics based on the failure of their efforts in Wisconsin.
It looks like violence will be their next approach.
Our nation has never been is such great peril as it is right now. The future of the Republic is at stake, as is the freedom of all Americans.
It's ironic that the slogan of the Trumpistas, "Freedom is Essential", represents the last thing Trump would ever want to flourish in America.
The people holding those signs are the useful idiots that are being used to further Trump's aims, and eventually take away the thing these idiots claim to be protecting.
Of course, once Trump consolidates power after winning the election, the useful idiots become much less useful.
This is an old story, played out countless times throughout history.
Get the idiots to destroy the nation, and then take control under the guise of offering the people what they want, even though it will never be what they actually get.
When will they ever learn?

(318 posts)With regard to "ID and quarantine," the demonstration of the presence of CV genetic material (an active infection) is really what's needed. Antibodies *could* be present in a person who no longer has the CV in his/her/their body; quarantine of those folks is counterproductive: without the virus in their body, such a person has no possibility of infecting someone else with CV.
Because the biology of this novel (to humans) infectious agent is still replete with unknowns, there is no guarantee that the presence of anti-CV antibodies actually indicates that the person is *protected* against reinfection -- let alone that they've actually cleared the virus from their system and are no longer infectious. Additionally, someone who's infected, but asymptomatic, might not yet have antibodies to the virus, yet could very well be infectious at the time of testing for the presence of antibodies.
A positive antibody test does indicate, quite reliably, that they had been infected by CV, but at this time -- from a scientific, immunological, and epidemiological perspective -- there's really no guarantee (on the basis of that particular test alone) that they're safe to go back to "life as before."
Testing a huge percentage of the population for active infection (rather than just for antibodies) is really what's needed, then, in order to be sure we're not just unleashing another wave of infection by lifting physical distancing measures.
(Caveat: just my opinion, based in part on an M.S., immunology; and a postdoc, molecular virology.)

The FDA approval is the second major announcement in recent days from RUCDR, which also launched a genetic testing service for the coronavirus that can test thousands of samples daily. With the new saliva test, that number may increase to tens of thousands of samples daily.
On edit: I agree with you that "testing a huge percentage of the population for active infection (rather than just for antibodies) is really what's needed" -- and it looks like RUCDR does, too, because they've apparently come up with ways to test for both!
