Report: George Soros Donates $1 Million To Democratic Super PAC

Source: TPM

Billionaire financier George Soros is donating $1 million to Priorities USA, a super PAC supporting President Obama's re-election, according to the New York Times. He plans on giving another $500,000 to Democratic super PACs aimed at winning House and Senate races. Previously Soros had indicated he planned to remain on the sidelines in 2012 when it came to funding partisan groups.

Soros Gives $1 Million to Democratic ‘Super PAC’
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/09/27/soros-gives-1-million-to-democratic-super-pac/

The billionaire George Soros is committing $1 million to Priorities USA Action, the “super PAC” supporting President Obama, two people with knowledge of the decision said Thursday, a significant donation that could help spur further contributions to the group in the closing weeks of the election.

A longtime political adviser to Mr. Soros, Michael Vachon, made the announcement at a luncheon on Thursday hosted by the Democracy Alliance, a group of liberal donors who have already invested heavily in building grassroots organizations and research institutes. Mr. Soros will also give an additional $500,000 to two super PACs backing congressional Democrats. Other donors at the lunch were expected to commit between at least $10 million more to Democratic super PACs, suggesting that many — like Mr. Soros — had overcome their aversion to the purely advertising-oriented super PACs.

The luncheon, which was headlined by former President Bill Clinton, suggested a rapprochement of sorts between progressive donors who have traditionally favored movement-building and Democratic strategists who badly want large checks to finance the party’s emerging super PAC apparatus, which only in recent months have begun to draw significant financial support, much of it from traditional party sources like Hollywood, trial lawyers, and unions.

This means Soros now thinks that POTUS has the prize. Soros' money is basically insurance to make sure it's not stolen.

He was very angry about the tax extensions for the wealthy and has only been donating to Media Matters etc not directly to the campaign, he's more progressive than the party.

The GOP has several billionaires with open checkbooks, and we have Soros. Of course Bill Maher gave $1 million to Obama's Super PAC too, so I guess we have the cool factor going for us.

Glad to have some of his money for our side. He is the right's favorite whipping boy, ad they often bring up his name to show, using false equivalence, that both sides do it.

There is a Youtube video of him from january where he at one point says there's not much difference between Obama and Romney:

&list=PLE41082B068F11CE3&index=7&feature=plpp_video

Personally I tend to agree with him, though now that Romney has shown more of his true colors he is obviously worse than Obama, in fact I'd say he is barely human. And the real point is that the people behind Romney are much worse than the people behind Obama. The neocons are mostly hidden behind the curtain, but Romney is their front-end and they would be back in power should he win.

Winning the House would be HUGE, maybe this money will help towards that end.

Not so much to political PACS --but he shouldn't have to.

I'm being cynical. The whole rich deciders thing pisses me off. I guess some attempt to atone for their sins...

Sickening on all sides. No wonder so many people tune out from anything political.
