Opposed to Bailouts, but in This Case Willing to Take One

Some conservative nonprofit groups are seeking financial help to weather the coronavirus crisis. Some liberal organizations are putting aside different qualms to make the same request.

WASHINGTON — Among the applicants for loans from the Small Business Administration’s stimulus package is the foundation arm of FreedomWorks, a conservative operation that advocates small government and made its name opposing bailouts.

“I would love someone to give us free cash,” said Adam Brandon, the president of FreedomWorks, which is working to build support for President Trump’s effort to reopen the economy.

At the other end of the ideological spectrum, liberal groups like the Congressional Progressive Caucus Center and Media Matters for America have also applied for some of the small-business loans, which can be fully forgiven if the recipients use them to keep workers on their payrolls.

The groups on the left may be more comfortable than those on the right with the idea of federal government assistance, but accepting help from an administration they regularly criticize has left them debating how to balance their independence with their ability to keep functioning during an economic crisis.

One of the authors, Ken Vogel, referred to this article as a "scoop," which is a term reserved for news articles. I guess this is news.

SCOOP: At least two conservative groups backing TRUMP's re-opening push —
@FreedomWorks
&
@LibertyCounsel
— have applied for
@SBAgov
loans.

FreedomWorks application is notable, since:
1) it opposed past bailouts.
2) it's organizing coronavirus protests.

This is not a goddamn free for all. Unless you're a commercial business, no money for you. Unless you're a small business measured by ironclad guidelines, no money for you. If you have access to other sources of capital to tied you over, no money for you.

Jesus Christ! They are not accepting help from the "administration". They are accepting it from the Federal Government of the United States of America. Stealth both-siderism at its finest.

seeking a government bailout they have previously opposed (to put it mildly) for others. Why would liberal groups feel compelled to debate "how to balance their independence with their ability to keep functioning during an economic crisis"? They are not seeking money from the MAGAt King's personal piggy bank. He's not doing anyone a favor by helping to dispense America's money. (Which his "administration" is doing in the most incompetent and corrupt way possible, anyway.)

Of course, Vogel was also the guy pushing the slanderous, bullshit allegations about Ukrainian intervention in support of HRC in 2016 and about Biden supposedly assisting the Ukrainian company that employed his son:
