Amazon, Walmart, FedEx workers plan walkout on Friday: report
Source: The Hill
Workers from corporations are planning a walkout Friday, including employees from Amazon, Walmart and FedEx. The workers are seeking better health and safety standards as well as hazard pay while working during the coronavirus pandemic.
Former Amazon employee Christian Smalls, shared a flyer on Twitter last week that included other prominent company names participating in the demonstration on May 1, such as Instacart, Target and Whole Foods, according to a report from The Intercept.
"Protect all workers at all cost," Smalls tweeted, adding, "we are not expendable or replaceable enough is enough TAKE THE POWER BACK!"
The Friday demonstrations will also request protective and cleaning equipment and full disclosure on the number of infected cases in company facilities.

(69 posts)All three of those companies should be unionized. I was a Teamster for 35 years, and strongly believe in unions.

(9,898 posts)has been pretty scarce during this mess. The shop steward did file a grievance yesterday about some flying under the radar some administrators were attempting. It might get them to stop it until the grievance can be decided (never, if my grievance-filing experience is any indication), in which case the point will be moot because the pandemic will be past.
Maybe this fiasco will get it through some people's heads that unions are a good thing, but if there's no union around to capitalize, the opportunity will be lost.
They deserve protective gear, sick leave, and good pay. I am very grateful for their work.

(43,376 posts)it will be expensive and consumers will pay because costs are always passed along. With the Fed printing money and throwing it at markets and the economy, the virus raising the costs of doing business, output down due to layoffs, we will see one helluva jump in inflation.
money printing, increased costs, lowered productivity, lowered output = INFLATION

(6,676 posts)A Massive general workers strike is needed. I wish grocery stores, big box hardware stores
Flight attendants and ALL people still working would join in. It would make a big difference
In the safety of the workplace for everyone.

(51,643 posts)since they wouldn't protect their workers. I don't use Fed Ex or Walmart or I would be boycotting them too.

(21,226 posts)I have been buying stuff on eBay from sellers in the US. What I have noticed is the prices on Amazon are sometimes higher priced than eBay.

(51,643 posts)I always compare prices (on a strict/limited budget) and most of the stuff is cheaper via ebay or other places.... making boycotting a win-win situation.

(9,865 posts).....nationwide to raise minimum wage, provide sick pay, health care foe all. Corporations treat workers like serfs.
One of the reasons Europe has a stronger safety net is because of nationwide strikes. It's under threat now but still, their governments fear them in a way ours does not fear us.

(12,480 posts)We can take the means of production and distribution away from greedy owners who mistreat and exploit worker desperation. We have enough we just have to take our power back.
If the workers are out striking at the Walmart I live near I will buy them coffee or lunches something to help. If they want me to carry a sign in support .. I'll do whatever they want me to do . Because I am so proud and happy for them standing up to the greedy and inhuman..

(1,584 posts)Meat packers, grocery workers, airline employees, etc should join them. If you still have a job, call in sick Friday.
These workers are literally risking their lives and getting no government support and idiots protesting to open up everything putting them at further risk.
Meanwhile Wall Street is booming and the bailout cash is flowing freely to the wealthy along with testing and PPE.

(17,053 posts)My daughter will shop for me, but I feel better if she isn't making special trips for me. I have ordered online and local delivery from Kroger's, just to save her a visit, but I don't want any other people to risk their health for me, so I am not really shopping much. If I knew that employees were actually getting supplied with masks, gloves and hand sanitzers and their employers were treating them like human beings instead of bricks in the wall, I'd probably order more or more often.
I got my relief money today, and have no urge to spend it.
I hope this latest protest makes a difference. There are almost 1/4 million dead worldwide from the virus. And we'll hit 60,000 dead in the US probably by 4/30. Inexcusable.
