Thousands of people marched through the streets of south Minneapolis Tuesday night in response to the death of George Floyd, who died in police custody after an officer knelt on his neck for several minutes and ignored the mans protests that he couldnt breathe.
Protesters marched from the site of Floyds death outside Cup Foods on Chicago Avenue to the Minneapolis Police Departments Third Precinct, where the door was smashed and protest signs left outside.
Shortly before 8 p.m., police clad in riot gear were firing tear gas and sandbags at the protesters, who were throwing water bottles at them in what appeared to be a standoff.
As it marched earlier, the crowd, which numbered in the thousands, shouted chants such as I cant breathe and called for the swift prosecution of the officers involved in the incident.
This will happen again if we dont get out in front of this, said community activist Al Flowers, who called the incident one of the most egregious murders Ive ever seen. He said the officer who knelt on Floyds neck should be prosecuted.............................................................

Seems like an overkill by law enforcement IMHO.

At one point, protesters pelted a line of police SUVs with water bottles and other items, shattering the windows.

(4,308 posts)Or is mayhem legal for people who are deliberately equipped to commit mass murder?
PS My husband and I are gun owners. We are just decent, law-abiding, non-aggressive gun-owners.

(35,348 posts)Not just "water bottles" (which at first thought might well be empty or nearly so, unlike empty bricks or rocks).
Partial information.

(32,626 posts)White Supremacist protesters get police escorts, black protesters get a hostile police presence just waiting to pounce. White protesters are protesting about their guns, or their right to hate...black protesters are protesting about young black men getting murdered. The police are the problem, the instigators, the killers. They are the cause, and then they throw lighter fluid on to the fire.
