Hundreds Take Part In George Floyd Protests In Anaheim, Other OC Cities

SANTA ANA (CBSLA) One man was arrested after allegedly driving his vehicle into a crowd of protesters at one of several demonstrations held Wednesday in Orange County in response to the death of George Floyd last week at the hands of Minneapolis police.
According to police, a man allegedly drove his Mini Cooper into a crowd of protesters near the Newport Beach Pier striking three or four people, though no serious injuries were reported. The man was taken into custody on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
The first of the protests started just before noon with roughly 500 protesters peacefully marching around Anaheim, Police Sgt. Shane Carringer said.
Its completely peaceful, Carringer said. Weve had great communication with organizers of the protests and theyve actually shorted their march route to accommodate the size of the protest, so were giving them traffic control to give them the route they want.

This is pretty amazing in Orange County, which is a solidly Republican area of California. Of course, there was a person who was trying to emulate the white supremescist from Virginia by trying to drive into a protest.

Katie Porter is the representative of what was, and still is, a strongly conservative area of the county: Irvine/Mission Viejo.
Harley Rouda represents Huntington Beach/Newport Beach -- he'll have a rough go of it this year, but he managed to defeat Dana Russiabacker.
Hey, it's no liberal paradise "behind the Orange Curtain," but it's no longer the bastion of Bircherism it was in the past.
