Poll: Biden has doubled his lead over Trump in Michigan
Source: Detroit Free Press
LANSING Former Vice President Joe Biden has increased his lead over President Donald Trump to 12 percentage points in Michigan, where voters are unhappy with Trump's response to the coronavirus pandemic, according to a new poll.
Biden, the presumed Democratic nominee, leads Republican Trump in Michigan 53-41, according to a poll conducted by EPIC-MRA of Lansing between May 30 and last Wednesday.
Biden's lead over Trump in Michigan, seen as a key battleground state in the Nov. 3 presidential election, has doubled from six points in January, when Michigan voters favored Biden over Trump 50-44, in an earlier EPIC-MRA survey.
Trump's response to the coronavirus pandemic is not helping him in Michigan, according to the poll of 600 likely voters, which was conducted by live callers and included 40% cellphone participation. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

We're getting back to Obama numbers.

(16,903 posts)We should be in double digits and we need to be! As a Michigander I felt deeply embarrassed when we lost the state in '16. I still don't actually believe it because I'm sure there were serious irregularities in Detroit precincts specifically.
Nevertheless, in '20 our numbers need to be so large that we easily overwhelm any "irregularities"!

(6,931 posts)People have seen now for almost four years and especially in the last few months just how hideous Trump really is. Using George Floyd who was tortured for nine minutes and killed to pimp his FAKE unemployment numbers, gassing his own people for a ridiculous Church photo-op has moved just that many more off the fence.

(1,887 posts)that Trump's win was not so much Putin as it was Brad Pascale, now head of Trumjp's reelection campaign, use of
Facebook that won Trump the '16 election. Read all about it in the New Yorker, March 2, 2020 issue.
Thank goodness the good people at Facebook went on strike last week and mayby got Zuckerberg's
to re-think his laissez-faire policies.

(32,645 posts)... not enough credit to Facebook and Twitter. They were the real thieves, mining their users' datafiles and targeting certain groups with coded messages.

(3,496 posts)General misogyny of the electorate (the first women to be US President is going to have to be a ball-buster IMO, like Thatcher). Comey publicly reopening an investigation weeks before the election (...but her emails...). General malaise towards the Clintons from right-wing radio (Republicans wisely invested a lot of resources keeping Ken Starr on the job for years). I don't necessarily agree, but others will claim the MSM wanted a horse-race; I'll counter all the crap Trump pulled in the campaign got ample coverage and he was still able to keep it close (mainly for the reasons I have already made).
Social media amplified these points much more than we thought. In the end Democrats suffered from the combined effects of all of this and a quirk in the election process called the Electoral College, which allows for the President to be elected without being the person with the most votes (something we should really abolish).
As things stand now, if the Republicans get walloped in Nov, both sites of Congress will probably not reflect the size of the loss because of gerrymandering, self-segregation of the electorate and the nature of the Senate, which allows states like N & S Dakota get more votes than California. There are structural advantages that the Republicans have. At some point they will be back in power. The Democratic Party is foolish if it doesn't start making changes to the system to level the playing field while they have an opportunity.

(15,540 posts)Lots of Republicans are going to start identifying as "Independents". There's not going to be too many people who will openly admit that they voted for the failure we have now. However, I have a very long memory of who had a Trump sign in their yard or business in my neck of Michigan, so for those of you who did, if it's a business then I'll never patronize it.
I still maintain Michigan was stolen. I will go to my grave believing that.
We must not let that happen again.

(36,745 posts)MI will be called very early election night.
Unrestricted absentee voting will drive the turnout higher.
