Kurt Thomas, the first U.S. male gymnast to win a world championship gold medal, died Friday at 64, his family said.
Thomas had a stroke May 24, caused by a tear of the basilar artery in the brain stem.

(5,725 posts)...the same way I love The Swarm or Howie Long's Firestorm or Battlefield Earth or John Travolta's last ten movies.
I'm less impressed by how Parmesancheezistan just happens to have a pommel horse in the center of their "crazy town" (ugh, this fuckin' movie) than by how, despite the country having so many homicidal maniacs that have been simply abandoned in a small town to fend for themselves*, said people have settled and created a functional society of their own and exclusively attack outsiders despite an abundance of defenseless potential victims.
*much like we do, only with even less support and outreach, if you can imagine that

(22,694 posts)I watched Women's gymnastics for years, but never liked Men's. Then along came Thomas, who was interesting to watch and very good. A Men's Gymnastics fan was born! Although I would imagine that wouldn't be the kind of stroke you'd want to live through. The brain stem is kind of basic.
