LOS ANGELES (AP) Bonnie Pointer, who in 1969 convinced three of her church-singing siblings to form the Pointer Sisters, which would become one of the biggest acts of the next two decades, died Monday.
The Grammy winner died of cardiac arrest in Los Angeles, publicist Roger Neal said. She was 69.
It is with great sadness that I have to announce to the fans of the Pointer Sisters that my sister, Bonnie died this morning, sister Anita Pointer said in a statement. Our family is devastated, on behalf of my siblings and I and the entire Pointer family, we ask for your prayers at this time.
Bonnie Pointer often sang lead and was an essential member of the group through its early hits including Yes We Can Can and Fairytale. She would leave for a short and modest solo career in 1977 as her sisters went on to have several mega-hits without her.

Who plays the very catchy steel on this song?

There was a discussion about this a few weeks ago. If I remember correctly, it was Weldon Myrick. Nice tune and steel work from somewhere around '73 or 4. I remember being pleasantly surprised to hear the steel on it way back then.

(42,862 posts)She left the group in 1977, shortly before the Pointer Sisters now a trio had their biggest run of hits in the late '70s and early '80s with songs like "Fire" and "Neutron Dance."
Her biggest song as a solo artist, "Heaven Must Have Sent You," made it to No. 11 in 1979.

(23,138 posts)"Jump" is my all time fave of theirs and one of my top 3 fave tunes to dance to, B52's Love Shack and the Think version Aretha did in Blues Brothers are the other 2.
I saw them at a company party back in 1992, it was the most fun I've ever had. It was such an awesome party, the President got fired for spending an outrageous sum of money. But the Pointer Sisters were the big highlight and oh were they good. There were about 8 of us dancing right by the stage to every song and they started playing around with us. My husband got a hanky that one of them, think it was Bonnie, pulled out and wiped down her face and chest then threw it to him. He still has it, one of his prized possessions.

It was released in 1979, so I don't know if Bonnie was with them at that time.
It was guaranteed to pack a dance floor.
