Burundi president dies of 'cardiac arrest' at 55

Burundi's President Pierre Nkurunziza, aged 55, has died after suffering a cardiac arrest, the government says

A government statement says that he was admitted to hospital on Saturday after feeling unwell.

His condition then improved but on Monday he had a cardiac arrest and efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Mr Nkurunziza was due to step down from the presidency in August after 15 years in power.

3. Yes presidenting in Africa is a high-risk occupation.

I don't know a lot about this one yet but I looked into it a few years ago after the 4th death in three months and discovered that African presidents very often die with their boots on.

2. There has been speculation that he might have had Covid. His wife was diagnosed it

patients who need hospitalization start to show very bad symptoms.
