ABC News has placed its head of talent on leave while it investigates her history of insensitive comments, HuffPost reports. Barbara Fedida, a senior executive at the network in charge of hiring, has cost the network millions in settlements with former employees who raised issues of insensitivity, outright racism, and even racial discrimination.
"To say that she's an abusive figure is an understatement," one former employee told HuffPost. Anchor Robin Roberts, who is black, said that during contract negotiations in 2018, Fedida said it was not as if the network was asking the reporter to "pick cotton." (511 posts)And they realize if they didn't act on such an obvious racist now, they'd be in an even worse position when called out for hypocrisy in their reporting on racism and police brutality in America. Before, they just paid out settlements likely with confidentiality agreements, to sweep things under the rug.

(17,931 posts)She took care of "problems" her bosses, two news division presidents, didn't want to deal with. She was a fixer. I've seen the type before. Higher ups either agree with the tactics or simply look the other way because fixers "get the job done". But eventually, their toxicity outlives its usefulness. In this climate, she's become a liability and will be sent packing in short order and take the brunt of the blame. Well deserved I'm sure, but those above her who are just as responsible will most likely get off scott free. Just one more lovely story of corporate America.
