FDA Pulls Authorization for Ineffective Trump-Touted Virus Drug

Source: Bloomberg

U.S. regulators revoked emergency-use authorization for two malaria drugs touted by President Donald Trump as a Covid-19 treatment after determining they were unlikely to work against the virus and could have dangerous side effects.

The Food and Drug Administration said Monday that chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine “are unlikely to be effective in treating Covid-19.”

“Additionally, in light of ongoing serious cardiac adverse events and other serious side effects, the known and potential benefits of CQ and HCQ no longer outweigh the known and potential risks for the authorized use,” the agency said.

The FDA had authorized the drugs for use in hospitalized patients with Covid-19 in March after Trump said they could be effective against the virus despite a lack of clinical evidence.

Why should he even be consulted (or patronized) on suggesting drugs he has monetary interest in?

Maybe he damaged his body taking a drug that he had no business taking to begin with.

It is said to cause heart damage among other things.

However, as dump himself stated, "Why not take it? What have you got to lose?".

Damn fool! The answer is your health and your life!

I was prescribed that (along with polio & tetanus boosters, as well as typhoid, and yellow fever prophylactics). I never took, let alone filled the script for chloroquine because even back then, I heard so many nightmare stories about it.

He had malaria and he quit taking it as it was causing him more problems that he already had!

When he died, he had the fevers still.

Obviously the hydroxychloroquine did him more harm from good as he ended up dying due to a prolapsed mitral valve!

In hindsight, it so very sad!

And to think that this damned idiot is pushing it -- even the foolish Meghan McCain admitted to having her own personal stash of this crap on hand (of course as the rich always get what they want!).

Did she take it too? I mean why not? What does she have to lose other than that baby she is supposed to be having soon?

I know that drug (or at least its main originator form - quinine) is an old one and its use needs to be extremely limited and monitored.

This whole issue has mirrored what happened with Laetril and similar woo drugs, that were heavily promoted and misused, with some pretty sad outcomes.

They tried to fix it with a pig's valve.

He lasted about 9 months after that.

Massive stroke.

So yeah, I have a problem with the use of drugs, even if approved for a specific condition, being so casually used.

I saw the results and when I heard that statement, "What do you have to lose?", I admittedly just about lost it. I saw the "results" albeit not common, in happened nonetheless.

and agree that the tossed-off remark of "what do you have lose?" was cringe-worthy (I remember a LBN thread with the quote and people pretty much agreeing to an answer of "your life&quot .

Didn't Trump say he was taking hydroxychloroquine?
Doesn't it have a serious side effect on the heart/blood vessels?

My theory: Trump has suffered a stroke.

Just my opinion & I'm sticking to it.

if people signed waivers from hospital/prescriber liability (probably) for participating in the studies. But I wouldn't be surprised if those who took it on their own and get harmed by it, will go apeshit should their health take a turn for the worse (notably those who were not COVID-19 positive and did try to take it as a prophylactic). I'm sure the class action attorney world is gearing up.

"let's study it" to the Lancet retracting their reporting on the studies, and then the WHO starting up again..and now to the FDA pulling Authorization..is a wonder who the hell is on first..

What a fiasco - so many looking for a quick cure - falling for the POS (lying about taking Hydroxy to prevent C-19), when everyone knows he has NO credibility ..
