Hillary Clinton Backs Eliot Engel, in Her First House Primary Endorsement of 2020
Source: NY Times
Mr. Engel, a longtime New York representative, is trying to fend off a serious challenge from his left by Jamaal Bowman, who has been endorsed by Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Hillary Clinton delivered her first Democratic primary endorsement in a 2020 House race on Monday, throwing her support behind Representative Eliot L. Engel of New York, who is trying to fend off a serious challenge from his left after more than three decades in Congress.
I have worked with Eliot Engel as first lady, as senator from New York and as secretary of state, Mrs. Clinton said in a statement provided to The New York Times. Every step of the way, his No. 1 priority has always remained the same: delivering for his constituents.
The endorsement puts Mrs. Clinton on the opposite side of a wave of progressives who are backing Mr. Engels leading challenger, Jamaal Bowman, a middle school principal, including Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont; Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York; the Working Families Party; Justice Democrats; and MoveOn, the progressive advocacy group.

Plus, she knows how dishonest they are about Democrats.

Congresswoman Nita Lowey
NEW YORK Praising his record on reproductive health and climate change and his long partnership on progressive causes Congresswoman Nita Lowey has endorsed Congressman Eliot Engel for reelection to Congress.
The endorsement adds to the growing roster of major progressive Democrat legislators who have endorsed Congressman Engel, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi, House Democratic Whip James Clyburn, House Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Chairwoman Maxine Waters, Chairman Adam Schiff, and the Congressional Black Caucus.
Eliot is an unwavering leader on the progressive priorities we all share, said Congresswoman Lowey. As Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, he took a leading role in the impeachment of President Trump and works to ensure U.S. security and effective global engagement. As a member of the powerful Energy and Commerce Committee, he has secured vital relief for New York in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. He is a stalwart fighter for the Affordable Care Act, reproductive rights, combating climate change, and health care for all, and takes a strong stand against hate in all its forms.
At this pivotal time, New York demands strong representation in Washington to combat the division and hate that Donald Trump perpetuates.
We need a true fighting progressive with experience and a deep commitment to helping our communities thats Eliot Engel.
Wow. Beautiful sincere endorsement honoring Sen Engel's endless & dedicated work for New York & for America.

Engel is a good Rep. He was one of the first to effectively push for impeachment, he's great on climate, and he's great for his constituency.
I really cannot stand the "Democratic circular firing squad" wing of the party doing this in this year when we need every seat we can get. WHY, oh WHY can they not go after REPUBLICANS???

(59,504 posts)Dependent on your positions, that could be good or bad. One mark against him is that he voted against the Obama era Iran deal, because Netanyahu and much of the Likkud party were against it. However some in the Israeli military leadership and Mossad admired it would prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons thus made Israel safer.

(4,522 posts)If I didn't have a primary, I wouldnt care, the New York Democrat told Ruben Diaz Jr., the Bronx borough president, as he asked for time to speak at a news conference on local vandalism"
The senior Democrat had already come under fire in recent weeks after a report revealed that Engel had not spent any time in his New York district which has been ravaged by the coronavirus outbreak since late March.

(59,504 posts)Remember in 2008, in the primary, both Clintons and most Democratic Senators, including Biden, endorsed Joe Lieberman over Ned Lamont. If memory serves me right, only Russ Feingold and John Kerry refrained from saying anything positive when asked about his race. I believe neither endorsed Lamont in the primary.
George II
(67,782 posts)In fact Bill Clinton was a bone of contention between Lamont and Lieberman, with Lamont bringing up Lieberman's criticism of Clinton in 1998, which Lieberman defended during the 2006 campaign.

(59,504 posts)Bill Clinton even recorded a ironically for him. In the.GENERAL ELECTION, they all endorsed the winner of the Democratic party, Lamont.

Why are you on a one-person campaign to bash Eliot Engel? If you support Bowman, that's fine. Why not say something positive about him instead of a stream of negative posts about Engel, especially with false or incomplete or inaccurate information?
In a few hours now you've posted:
Eliot Engel's hot mic comment, which was incomplete and out of context (I've given you the context).
Eliot Engel hasn't been in his district for months, with nothing to back it up, and it's false.
A "Republican PAC" has given $100,000 to help elect Eliot Engel, even though they haven't spent a penny.
Three false or misleading attacks on Eliot Engel. What's up with that?
