Amid fight over Jeffrey Epstein's dark secrets, Dershowitz seeks access to sealed documents

Lawyer Alan Dershowitz is fighting to obtain secret court documents involving Jeffrey Epstein to use in a civil defamation lawsuit he has filed against a woman who claims she was forced to have sex with the flamboyant Harvard professor when she was a teen.
Lawyers for Virginia Giuffre, however, asked a federal judge on Tuesday to keep the documents out of Dershowitzs hands, at least for now, because they fear he may incorporate the information into his defamation case out of context and possibly distort the information.
Judge Loretta Preska held a telephonic conference call to hear arguments for and against Dershowitzs effort to obtain evidence that was collected in 2016 as part of an unrelated defamation suit that Giuffre brought against Epsteins alleged madam, Ghislaine Maxwell.
Tuesdays hearing came against the backdrop of an ongoing Miami Herald lawsuit seeking to make all the records public in the Maxwell lawsuit. How Preska rules could have a bearing on whether the public learns more about Epsteins circle of powerful, wealthy friends and whether they were either complicit in, had knowledge of or participated in his alleged sex trafficking operation.

(10,054 posts)He is trying to open the documents that show Epstein made Virginia Giuffre have sex with Israeli PM Ehud Barak and Victoria Secret CEO Les Wexner. I guess this is his version of "look at them, look at them, not at ME".

(308 posts)If you watch the Netflix special on Epstein, it looks like Dershowitz was a frequent guest -- and maybe a willing client? Of course he wants to know. After watching Netflix, it should doesn't look like he has ANY morality at all. I understand defense attorneys attitude, but he takes it to a whole new level.

(391 posts)"Distort the information," is the key phrase here. He's only trying to prevent information about his own culpability from being exposed. Epstein is dead as Caesar, and everyone knows who he was and what he did. No one gives a shit anymore about what's in his files.

(382 posts)Defense attorneys should not become members of their client's social circle. Especially someone like Epstein, whose life revolved around the sex slave industry.
Dersh got caught up because he was absolutely OK with, or maybe enthusiastic about, adult men having sex with young teens. Why on earth would he agree to a "massage" when he knew what Epstein was accused of? He opened himself up to becoming part of his client's criminal network.
