The federal government is ending its support for 13 drive-thru coronavirus testing sites on June 30, urging states to take over their operations even as cases spike in several parts of the country.
The sites, which HHS says are spread across five states, are the remnants of a larger federal testing program established early in the pandemic. Seven sites are in Texas, which is experiencing record numbers of confirmed coronavirus cases and hospitalizations.
The background: In March, HHS and FEMA set up 4 testing sites in 12 states. During the height of the pandemic, in early April, HHS tried to offload control of the drive-thru sites to states. The department reversed course after governors objected.
Reaction: Scott Becker, CEO of the Association of Public Health Laboratories, says it's not the right time to shift responsibility for the sites especially those near emerging hot spots in Texas to states.

Make America Vulnerable Again? No, that's too obvious. I am drooling now. Time for hamberders, Diet Cokes and some fresh spray tan. I'll get you all! You will be bowing to me on mandatory Bow to Trump Day. On your knees America! Oh, and you MAGATs are worthless pieces of crap. So easily manipulated."

(38,449 posts)HOw is it a CON JOB?....Well, Trump reverses a decision, because the public says that this is a............
.............VERY BAD DECSION.............. and then Donald Trump shows how cooperative and what a great listener he is. In this way, Donald Trump looks as if he listens to the experts and the public, when all along he was......... NOT... going close the sites at all...
...Reversing a decision like this, takes the heat off of Trump's poor performance at the rallies. Trump never had any intention of closing sites, especially in Texas, (closing sites in Texas would not be good for his election in November) ... but Trump needs to look cooperative and a listener, so when he reverses the decision which he never really made, it makes him look good..
...And looking good is the only thing that Donald Trump cares about...and nothing else...

(2,022 posts)A couple months ago, private clinics started to offer tests. Initially you had to claim some mild symptom (although they were so generic almost anyone could claim one), but no need for a doctor's order. Now I don't think you have to claim any symptoms.

(16,778 posts)We knew we were on our own after W's shit response after Katrina. This is not even pretending anymore. It's abdication of any duty AT ALL, and a threat to us all. There are racist, domestic terrorists in the White House focusing their beady evil eyes on un-raveling the US of A into civil war. Hate to be so pessimistic, but they want America back to white masters and slaves and if a couple million die, who cares?
