Trump cheated on his SATs by paying someone to take it for him, according to Mary Trump's new book

Source: Business Insider

Jake Lahut and Oma Seddiq 29 minutes ago

President Donald Trump cheated on his SATs, according to a forthcoming book from his niece.

Mary Trump writes in her tell-all book that Trump paid a proxy to take the SAT for him.

'The high score the proxy earned for him, Ms. Trump adds, helped the young Mr. Trump to later gain admittance as an undergraduate to the University of Pennsylvania's prestigious Wharton business school," according to the New York Times, who first reported on the passage.

A request for comment from Insider was not immediately returned by Wharton.

Although Trump hounded then-President Barack Obama for not turning over his college transcripts, he has never revealed any similar information about his time at Wharton, where he claims he graduated first in his class.

I recall people posting images of it during the campaign. A separate section of names were listed as graduating with honors. His name was not among them. His name was in the other, larger section of graduates. He could not possibly have been at the top of his class if anyone graduated with honors and he did not. Additionally, by having a whole section of people who graduated with honors that program shows he wasn't even close.

From Philly Mag:

...

The program for the commencement ceremony lists the names of students who graduated from Wharton with honors — cum laude, magna cum laude, summa cum laude — and Donald Trump isn’t among them. Nor is his name included on the Dean’s List published in 1968 by the Daily Pennsylvanian. Given that colleges and universities are prohibited by law from releasing transcripts to anyone other than the student in question, and that Trump has purportedly forbidden the school to do so, we’ll have to rely on proof by omission that Trump didn’t graduate with any academic distinction whatsoever.

Trump himself finally copped to this in a 1988 New York magazine story written by Julie Baumgold. “Okay, maybe not ‘first,’ as myth has it,” Baumgold wrote, “but he had ‘the highest grades possible.’”

The terms are cum laude, summa cum laude, and magna cum laude. Trump is not in the list of those honors graduates, which means he was not first in his class. His name is merely in the list of graduates—no honors.

Trump lies about everything, even those things that are easily proven to be lies. He knows his rabid right-wing supporters aren’t smart enough to look this up for themselves. They all know he lies, but they worship him anyway.

Tue Jul 7, 2020, 12:49 PM

ID check in the exam room was a joke. The way most people who did this got caught was through the signature match - most high schoolers didn't understand that a signature match would be applied, especially if your score went up by more than expected for a second test, or was exceptionally high in the first place. I know three people who paid to have the SAT taken for them, and they all were disqualified for signature match - this was 1990-1992.

I'd expect it was even easier and more common in the mid-to-late 1960s, especially with the draft and Vietnam. Understand that having somebody take SATs for you is another form of draft evasion - if he could not have gotten into Fordham (not a particularly high bar), he might have been out everywhere, and there goes his draft exemption.

Maybe. Would not surprise me.

But his SAT scores would have gone to Fordham, not Wharton.

Trump transferred from Fordham (Fordham: “Whew!) to Wharton. His transcript records would include his SAT scores from his last year in high school. Pretty sure Wharton, or any other school, would not ask him to retake them on a transfer.

70. Cheating Is a way of life.
Tue Jul 7, 2020, 10:15 PM
Jul 2020

If one habitually cheats in one aspect of his or her life, it tends to bleed over into other parts. Speaking as a former member of my high school golf team, I had occasion to witness this sort of cheating behavior from other players, whether it was moving their ball from the rough into the fairway when they thought no one was looking, taking multiple “mulligans” (some even on the fairway as well as off the tee), or picking up their golf ball from the green, 13 feet away from the cup, and calling it a “gimme.” To fellow teammates (or even other members of a friendly foursome), watching someone repeatedly indulge in these sorts of unfair advantages tends to breed contempt on the part of ones fellows.

According to several high-profile celebrity golfers who have had the “pleasure” of golfing with President Trump, he regularly employs each of these shady tactics (as well as countless others), to enhance his score, and thereby “beat” (at all costs) his opponents.

Cheat at golf, cheat on your SAT’s. Cheat in business, cheat on your wives. Duplicity can be a powerful tool (or should I say “weapon”?) in the hands of a sociopath like “The Donald.” But it never works forever. Eventually, the bill comes due. Prepare to pay up, Donny Boy.
