Trump declares US in 'culture war,' says flying Confederate flag 'freedom of speech'

Source: MSN

As President Donald Trump ramps up rhetoric stoking racial divisions in the country, asked directly to give his personal stance on the Confederate battle flag's place in society, Trump said, for him, it's "very simple -- it's freedom of speech."

"You do what you do, it's freedom of speech. NASCAR can do whatever they want, and they've chosen to go a certain way, other people choose to go a different route, but it's freedom of speech," Trump told Nexstar in an interview Tuesday, on the heels of a controversial tweet appearing to criticize the racing giant for banning the flag.

In a separate interview Tuesday, the president also declared, "We are in a culture war."

Trump contradicted his own White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, who just the day before, looking to counter reports calling the president's Fourth of July speeches "dark and divisive," said, "This vision is not a culture war."

That's what he's distracting us from.

He's not just a lousy president, he's a lousy human being.

He's a sociopath.

And the Republicans left him in power.

if he got a heads-up regarding the ruling(s) a few days back - and it wasn't good for him. Could explain why he's been melting down on Twitter lately. I think the one that worries him the most is Trump v. Vance, the NY state AG case; even if he managed to swing some kind of Federal blanket pardon*, that of course doesn't cover state proceedings against him.

Guess we'll find out today (9 July 2020) around 16:00 East Coast time....that's when SCOTUS will issue its rulings on the last three cases for this term, and those final three are all about Trump's taxes.

* The scenario would go down like this: Trump loses this November - he resigns, let's say, a week or two before next year's Inauguration Day and has Pence take over as a caretaker President until Biden is sworn in and in return, Pence issues a blanket pardon for Trump.

I think that's the fundamental message Dems need to repeat - "Trump doesn't care if you die. He only thinks about himself. A president must not be allowed to do that."

For an individual to decide to fly it on his or her property or festooned from a pickup truck, it is free speech. People can fly it if they want to. However, a government entity flying one or a state or local flag that features it ISN’T free speech.

This is what the Republicans always do when they can't figure out anything else to run on pull out the old 'Culture War' bs. What they haven't figured out is the voting population that still reacts to that crap is shrinking at it pisses of a lot of people to the point they may just get out and vote.

are their two fallback, go-to, since 1968 actually.
The two are related in some symbiotic way as well.
Law and order. + Culture War.
Both reveal subtle and not so subtle racism. Stand in it's place.

aren’t flying it, I don’t think it should be outlawed by government for ignorant white wingers who think it’s cool to keep them on their property.

I do think organizations, establishments, parks, etc., can — and should — ban it on their property, like NASCAR. And I have no problem with people expressing their distaste with flag-waving deplorables.

If it isn't hate speech.

If it isn't rabble rousing speech.

If it isn't degrading, inciteful, derogatory racist/xenophobic banter.

If it isn't made up, non-fact speech.

If it isn't facts distorted into propaganda.

So yes, freedom of speech is important. But the speaker had better choose his words carefully.

It is a freedom that comes with responsibility.

Spouting verbal diarrhea isn't acceptable.
