Trump Says You Can Vote by Mail in Florida After Insisting You Shouldn't Do That in Any State Ever
Source: The Daily Beast
Donald Trump has relished making mail in voting a boogeyman during the coronavirus pandemic, denouncing the method routinely as part of his longstanding and evidence-free crusade over alleged voter fraud.
But that was before he realized how much Republican voters had started to listen to him. Now, with his re-election chances on line, the president is embracing the practice in the crucial swing state of Florida.
Within the senior ranks of Team Trumps political and field operations, there have been significant concerns for weeks that the president and GOPs crusade against voting-by-mail could actually backfire and result in a depression of absentee ballots cast for Trump come Election Day, according to three people familiar with the matter. However, all of these sources said that this growing concern has not convinced top advisers in the presidents vast reelection machine to actually stop this elections legal, rhetorical, and advertising warbacked by tens of millions of dollars on the righton mail-in voting during the pandemic. Instead, it has merely intensified their internal urgency to find new, broader ways to create a distinction between absentee and mail-in voting, even though functionally they are the same thing. Key to their argument, they say, is the increase in volume would lead to delays creating a national version of the bungled New York City election.
Two of the sources said they have discussed the issue about potential blowback from an anti-mail-in-voting push with President Trump over the past couple weeks, and have talked to him about how the Republican Partys victories in critical states in the 2020 election could even come down to robust absentee-ballot operations. They encouraged Trump to speak clearly about what they see as the differences between Democratic efforts to expand mail-in voting during the coronavirus crisis, and longstanding systems of absentee voting.

Which is, like everything else, wrong!

(1,789 posts)So if it's not the Post Office, what's his issue? Democratic governors are going to rig the election in their states? Wouldn't they do that with any means of voting, just fudge the count? It seems weird to me that Trump believes he would win in these states in a fair election when the voters elected Democratic governors.
Another thing that is going to bite Trump in the ass is that once he sets his mob off in a direction, they don't all change course as quickly as he does when he flip-flops. Look at the mask issue, they are still anti-mask despite the "change of tone" at press conferences. The typical Trump voter is still dead set against mail-in voting despite this announcement.

(23,134 posts)There is very strict signature matching that got 100,000 ballots thrown out in 2018. The law requires notification to the voter so they can come in and sign a new card, but guess who never gets the letter - Democrats. I volunteered with FL Dems in 2018 & was part of thousands of calls made to Dems who had been sent mail in ballots but they weren't counted. Almost all of them were rejected, but not ONE had received a letter telling them about this. It is only Hispanic or black names that get rejected - I'd bet that accounts for almost all the volume. AFAIK no studies have been done on this because FL Repugs have what they want - a tried and true way to reject any Dem ballots they want.
Voting by mail in FL if you are a Democrat is mainly a way for the Purinistas to reject your vote, which is why Traitor Tot is pushing it so hard. You think he would ever push anything good for the people - ha - never, ever in his life.

(8,008 posts)and have to wonder if this means the Republicans are rigging the votes here. I didn't exactly trust the count in the governor's race in 2018. Now I think I'll go vote in person rather than mailing my ballot.
