Obama challenges Romney's candor post-debate
Source: AP
DENVER (AP) President Barack Obama is challenging Republican Mitt Romneys candor the morning after their first debate, saying: If you want to be president, you owe the American people the truth.
Obama said at a rally in Denver on Thursday that at the debate he met this very spirited fellow who claimed to be Mitt Romney. But he says it couldnt have been his Republican rival because he says Romney misrepresented his own position on taxes, education and the outsourcing of jobs.
In tough comments, the president says Romney, quote, does not want to be held accountable ... because he knows full well that we dont want what hes selling.

(1,085 posts)The time for this was during the debate,... not hours later..and he should have challenged him right to his face...Problem is Romney stood on the stage in front of millions and lied and lied..and never was seriously challenged..

(9,460 posts)I think Obama was almost in shock at the amount of lies and the lack of moderating that was done.... I know I was.

(4,276 posts)has to follow a different set of rules due to his race. Had he hit back with these remarks last night, the public would have seen him as an angry black man. Now, I do believe that he deserves to be angry, but perception is reality and he simply played his cards close to the vest.
Romney did exactly what we knew he would do...he lied through his teeth. President Obama expected that and played the man just right. The chickens are already coming home to roost for Rmoney.
Last night's debate did nothing but show the country the true face(s) of Mitt. He's a liar, he's a bully, and his lack of character makes him unfit to be the President of the United States.
We all need to stay the course and chill out...Obama's got this covered.

(12,296 posts)My first reaction - as I'm sure many undecided's and other voters' will be - was exactly the same: why didn't he say that last night?
And how many people will REALLY be watching/listening to rallies today, during the work day, waiting for POTUS to 'clarify' his message?

(60,344 posts)Obviously, the pundits and many voters wanted to see a vicious candidate on stage or they wouldn't have called Romney a winner.
Mr. President, you can't let them roll over you like this.

Are you serious?
The debate was last night. There are two more debates to go and now Romney hass out himself in a box that he cannot get out of without angering his base and suppressing the enthusiasm of the right OR coming clean as a prevaricating piece of shit that only wants the title of "President" but really has no idea what he would actually do if he got there.
Lying to the extent that Romney did last night has consequences. He sold his future for a temporary boost in opinions and he did it whole hog with nothing held back.
Taxes? Who says I am going to cut upper income taxes? Not me...
Top priority? Its ALWAYS been jobs, jobs, jobs....you know, just like that REALLY popular Republican House said....
Health Care? OF COURSE, I cover pre-existing conditions....there are just no actual provisions in anything I support that does....
Medicaid and Medicare? No, no, no, I did not mean to have anyone believe they would be "vouchercare"...
Romney's debate performance was more akin to this Eric Idle classic Monty Python skit character....and President Obama's debate performance was every bit the man being fed the unbelievable nonsense:
Bottom line is this - Romney now has to answer for his sudden (and drastic) changes to policy positions that he had been running on for YEARS. The election is 5 weeks away and Mitt essentially walked away from several of his major positions in 90 minutes. There will be consequences for such a rash decision and as the debate fades away and Big Bird becomes the lasting image of it, I believe President Obama has allowed Mitt to walk himself right into a corner that he can't get out of in time to swing this election.
As in 2007 and again in 2008, and as is usually the case for No-Drama-Obama, Chill the Fuck out! I Got This!

(5,103 posts)how many minutes would President Obama spend correcting Romneys lies, knowing you have to include references.
I thought Romney was a hyper annoying and agitated liar who attempted a couple lame zingers.
I am tired of all this analysis. The end.

(6,342 posts)He had everyone's attention last night. That's when he needed to attack Romney. Not wait till the day after at a campaign rally when everyone is at work and no longer paying attention.
