California has become the first state in the U.S. to surpass 600,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19. The harrowing milestone comes as the state tops 11,000 total deaths from the virus.
Johns Hopkins University reported 603,072 coronavirus cases in the Golden State on Friday morning. The state leads the nation in cases, followed by Florida, with 557,137 cases, and Texas, with 531,428 cases.
The state is averaging 137,000 tests per day, with a positivity rate of 6.2% over the last 14-day period, Governor Gavin Newsom said Friday.
With 11,005 reported fatalities, California now ranks third in the country, behind New York and New Jersey, for the highest death toll. The state has experienced an increase in the number of deaths of about 10% in just one week. Texas and Florida rank fourth and fifth, respectively, for the highest number of deaths in the nation.

(51,590 posts)I live in CA and have had a fever for two days. My doctor said I could get tested if I'm "curious". Actually I am curious but don't want to go out since I live alone and am self isolating. The last time I went out was 9 days ago and I wore my trusty N95 and washed my hands when I got home. My doctor said "it can take up to two weeks, even if you mask up and wash hands you can get it". Fuck! That pisses me off! I have been so careful since the beginning of March and should be rewarded for my efforts. Double fuck!! I HATE Dump!

I'd feel the same way! Like,
It might be something else, of course. And IF you caught Covid somehow, you can probably take solace that you had a low viral load because of your precautions, and that should mean a better outcome.

(1,652 posts)are about 8000 total cases and 69 total deaths. Most things still are not open. mask wearing outdoors within 30 ft. of others is mandated, though not enforced. Its a small city of around a million. There have been 800 and some deaths in the whole Bay Area.
