Isolated North Korea says its rockets can hit U.S. mainland

Source: Reuters

Isolated North Korea has rockets that can hit the U.S. mainland, it said on Tuesday, two days after South Korea struck a deal with the United States to extend the range of its ballistic missiles.

North and South Korea have been technically at war since their 1950-53 conflict ended in a truce, not a peace treaty, and regional powers have for years been trying to rein in the North's nuclear weapons program.

North Korea is believed to be developing a long-range missile with a range of 6,700 km (4,160) miles) or more aimed at hitting the United States, but two recent rocket tests both failed.

Its neighbors fear the North is using rocket launches to perfect technology to build a missile capable of delivering a nuclear warhead to the United States.

While we are running around in Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Yemen, Libya, and so on, the real threats take a back seat. The threats that teach their children from birth that the US is the enemy, have known nuclear weapons, and are trying to perfect the capability to weaponize those nukes and be able to deliver them to Anchorage or San Francisco.

I am smarter than to think the NK regime is suicidal and would try a first-strike nuke attack against the US mainland, but the funny thing about war is that it is an unpredictable lady.

There are positive signs from the new leadership in NK, but saber-rattling like this is unnecessary.

Instead of talking about REAL threats like this, Obama and the idiot will be talking about the middle east. What a distraction the ME has become. What a waste.

But carry on Americans, you won't read this article. You will instead read about Lohan's 3rd DUI and the iPhone 5.

If North Korea launched a warhead at the US their entire country would be gone by the time it arrived anyway. It's just chestthumping and playing to the press/public, and anyone anywhere near button-pressing authority knows that.

People are very cavalier in conflating the North Korean people and their government.

South Korea just got permission to have longer range missiles to hit further into North Korea. Unlike North Korea's missiles these ones will actually hit a target.

After we bomb them so hard, bits of their military get launched into orbit.
