Venezuelan Election: Romney Accuses Obama Of Being Soft on Chávez

Venezuelan Election: Romney Accuses Obama Of Being Soft on Chávez
By JORDAN FABIAN
Oct. 8, 2012

Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney said Monday that he would do more to counteract leftist governments in Venezuela and Cuba that have long been a thorn in the United States' side.

Romney delivered a foreign policy address at the Virginia Military Institute, in which he pledged to take a more muscular stance against countries that threaten the U.S. and its allies, such as Iran. The candidate's address almost solely focused on the turmoil in the Middle East, but one day after Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez won a third term, he briefly touched on Latin America.

"There is a longing for American leadership in the Middle East, and it is not unique to that region," Romney said. "Our neighbors in Latin America want to resist the failed ideology of Hugo Chávez and the Castro brothers and deepen ties with the United States on trade, energy, and security. But in all of these places, just as in the Middle East, the question is asked: 'Where does America stand?' "

Romney says he is seeking to stake out a more assertive stance on foreign policy and national security compared to President Barack Obama, and he has frequently accused the current administration of toeing a soft line against the socialist Chávez and Communist Castro governments.

Hoo boy, that area has had an overdose of American leadership in the past hundred years! All those episodes of sending troops into Haiti, the Dominican Republican, El Salvador, Mexico, Guatemala, etc. and supporting counter-revolutionaries in Cuba and Nicaragua and Venezuela have created a "longing for American leadership" NOT.

It is usually the people who make changes in other countries. Re. Russia, Cuba, Venezuela, etc. and, strangely enough, in the pre United States of America. Meddling in other coutries usually only brings disaster. Cuba has been trying for many years to cement relations with the US, Romney continues to undo our friendly relations with the Russian government. Romney has no concept of the power of diplomacy.

Because that's where this goes. Back to the 40s-50s. Hating Muslims just isn't enough. Now we must hate our Latin American brothers and sisters who have played by the rules, had democratic elections and thereby carved out an alternative way to deal with capital & labor issues involving government in a way that RWnuts love to hate.

Screw you Mitt. Leave our peaceful southern neighbors the fuck alone to decide for themselves what
kind of government they want.

According to Jimmy Carter, Venezuela's elections are more reliable and less corrupted than the USofA.

HINT FOR YOU MITT: This is a race for POTUS, not for Chief Cop of the World.

Yes, we saw how they tried to resist last night. So hard that they reelected the man. So hard that they will reelect him again, God willing!

I'm still high over yesterday. It was a gorgeous day today too! It smelled like freedom! LOL

15. Basic Republican Position
Tue Oct 9, 2012, 05:50 AM
Oct 2012

Democracy is good, if we approve of the party that wins.
If we don't like the person, he's a dictator.
If we like the person, he's a patriotic strong leader.
If it involves Israel, our position is flat on our back, legs open, and "Whatever you want dear. Will you respect me in the morning?"

Did I miss any parts of the Republican foreign policy?
