Obama up 10 in Minnesota

Source: Public Policy Polling

PPP's newest poll of the Presidential race in Minnesota actually finds Barack Obama expanding his lead to 10 points over Mitt Romney at 53-43. Our last poll there in mid-September had found Obama's advantage to be 7 points at 51-44. A majority of the interviews for this poll were conducted Saturday and Sunday

There's an overwhelming sense in Minnesota as elsewhere that Romney won last week's debate. 64% think he was the victor to only 19% who say Obama. But unlike in other places it hasn't led to a big improvement in Romney's image. Just 42% of voters have a favorable opinion of him to 53% with a negative one. That's actually slightly worse than a month ago when he was at 43/51.

Obama has a solid 53/45 approval rating. Voters trust him more than Romney both on the economy (50/44) and on foreign policy (54/41). Obama has a 49/41 lead with independents, has the advantage with both women (56/41) and men (50/45), and has at least a small lead within all four age groups.

In the Senate race Amy Klobuchar has expanded her already wide lead from 19 points to 26 over the last month. She's at 57% to 31% for opponent Kurt Bills.

This is a poll of likely voters.

Full poll results here:

http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/2011/PPP_Release_MN_10912.pdf

It explains there that most of the polling was done Saturday and Sunday, as opposed to some other recent polls that were front-loaded to have most of the poll results from the first couple of days after the debate.

9. The Summit area is actually pretty solidly Democratic

There are certainly Republicans who live around there but it is not a Republican stronghold by any means, In fact Democrats always win elections there every cycle I don't even know who the last Repulican to win that neighborhood in an election was. Summit is where the wealthy Democrats live, wealthy Republicans tend to prefer the suburbs. If you go to the Lake Minnetonka area you will see lots of Republican 1%ers, some of the houses out there are totally obnoxious and make the homes on Summit look like shacks.

10. In 2008 virtually all of the McCain seen in St Paul signs were in the Summit area

when you are speaking of solely the cities of Minneapolis and St Paul that makes it a Republican strong hold, the 'burbs are an all together different deal, the Republicans have been panting to gerrymander the 2 cities into o0ne Congressional district for years for the reason that they are Democratic party strongholds

President Obama will win handily here.

Literally, nobody even knows who Amy Klobuchar's opponent is. I finally seen ONE yard sign for him the other day.

I also believe Bachmann and Chip Cravaack are on the way out and *fingers crossed* the marriage amendment ban will fail.

Marriage discrimination and voter suppression. Right there on the ballot. The Republicans are hoping popular whim can be harnessed to rob targeted groups of their fundamental rights.

12. Now we must work to rid ourselves of Bachman and Cravaack

People are canvassing all over Minnesota. Bachman is in a toss up with Jim Graves and Cravaack s running in a traditionally democratic stronghold. That being said we must also defeat the marriage amendment and the voter I.D. AmendMent. Governor Dayton could really use a house cleaning as both state houses are currently in republican hands. Things here look the best they have in 4years and I see help wanted signs many places.

13. Kline is just as scary as Bachmann, IMO.

Compare their voting records and the fact that Kline is actually in D.C., working and voting and keeping quiet while Bachmann is drawing all the attention.

Hopefully, Obermueller can knock him off this year. And Graves and Norton score wins as well.

South Carolina - In 2008 there were hundreds (seemed like thousands) of McCain/Palin bumper stickers and signs, however, this year I have counted 6 (yes only six) Romney/Ryan signs/bumper stickers. What is even more interesting is that I am seeing more Obama/Biden signs - this is a "huge" deal since I live in South Carolina "Tea Party" territory. At this rate, South Carolina may turn "Blue" sooner than we think.

anywhere. Admittedly, I live in part of Minneapolis that is even bluer than the rest of the city, but even so. I have seen tons of VOTE NO! signs regarding the marriage amendment and more than a few teevee commercials against it. No one has any idea who is running against Amy Klobuchar, even here.

I am hoping the marriage amendment will fail so big in the Twin Cities that it overcomes the snowbilly vote in places like Batshit's district.
