Derek Jeter injured as Yankees lose to Tigers in Game 1 of the ALCS

Source: newsday.com

The charge Raul Ibañez put into the Stadium crowd with a dramatic tying two-run homer in a four-run ninth inning early lasted about three innings.
Much of the air came out of the place when Nick Swisher misplayed Delmon Young's scorching liner off David Phelps with one out in the 12th, which finally gave the Tigers the lead again.
And any remaining enthusiasm dissipated a batter later when Derek Jeter got hurt while diving for Jhonny Peralta's ground smash and had to be helped off the field.

I don't like to see this happen. I have the impression that Jeter has done a lot for his team and his city. I would rather see all of them whole and sound. Then, let the Yankees lose.

If he hadn't squandered a four run lead in the ninth none of that would have happened.

May be transparent on the front.

But then again - could be a wad of bubblegum. Does/did he chew gum on the field?

I hope he heals well and quickly and doesn't rush the healing process so it never quite heals right (too many pros do this and shorten their years of playing).

He's from K'Zoo, and he's well-loved there even though he plays for the Yankees.

Am really sorry about Deter, the Tigers have had their share of injuries, and you'd rather win the game than the other side lose by attrition...

That said, ny beloved Detroit Tigers showed how tough they can be tonight. I wouldn't be happy if I were a Yankees fan right now...

It happens. At least Jeter can recoup in one of his million-dollar mansions. Go Tigers, and may Valverde never pitch for them again!

What I've seen of him, he's actually got more pop in his bat than Jeter. Although not as good a hitter.

This is news of interest to some of our readers. Just as some stories about Latin America only interest a few, or news of the politics in Nebraska only interest a portion ( I could go on, but you get the idea), this is a story of national interest. There is no rule that precludes major sports stories from LBN. The Jeter aspect makes this one of particular interest to many.
If a reader sees a post and they aren't interested, just pass on by and read the next one.

Thanks, Nancy ( LBN host)

I hope Jeter has a swift and trouble free recovery. He's earned the respect of all baseball fans, regardless of their team loyalties.
