Wis. Senate Candidate (Tommy Thompson's) Son: We "Have The Opportunity" To Send Obama Back To Kenya
Source: Buzzfeed
Jason Thompson, the son of former Governor and Wisconson Senate candidate Tommy Thompson, speaking this morning at a brunch attended by Tommy Thompson and RNC Chairman Reince Priebus said that we have the opportunity to send President Obama back to Chicago or Kenya. A woman in attendance then chimed in we are taking donations for that Kenya trip. A spokesman for Thompson did not immediately return a request for comment.

(13,985 posts)Were you being sarcastic?
I watch Sharpton every chance I get , and so do a lot of other ppl.
And what's up with fox news?
Atman
(31,464 posts)YOU watch him. And so do "a lot of other people." But are you aware how insignificant MSNBC's ratings are? Fox is considered "huge" by cable standards, and still only gets a few million people on a good night. Network "news," otoh, as much as we scoff and think no one watches it, reaches TENS OF MILLIONS of people every night. This is why MSNBC runs prison shows on the weekend...there is just no reason, financially, to spend money on real programming. Not enough people are watching. Al Sharpton is on MSNBC. I think they might finally be beating CNN, and I know they've don well, comparatively, during the debates, but they are still a very minor player in the cable news biz. They're getting stronger, I don't deny. But just because us political geeks watch them, MOST of America doesn't. There are still cables systems that consider MSNBC so "fringe" that they aren't even carried. Sad, but true.
So, my point is -- 1,000,000 people marched on Washington to protest Bush and the impending Iraq war. NO ONE covered it. It wasn't in the Corporate News' interest to tell us what was really happening. This is precisely why we won't hear much about Mitt's Sonnada scandal, or whatever it's called. And it's why it is unlikely MOST of America will never hear about Thompson's remarks, even while MSNBC junkies are given the impression it is being played 24/7. Sorry...it isn't.

(31,464 posts)Obviously, "no one" is not meant literally. Of course someone watches him, or he wouldn't be on the air.
I thought the anti-war march comparison would have made it pretty clear; the GOP-controlled media will make a big deal only out of that which will advance its agenda. MSNBC simply does not have the reach. If EVERY MSNBC program chose to report this story, and the other stations don't pick it, it won't have an impact. Al Sharpton can dance naked screaming from a rooftop, and the only thing they'd report is that crazy old Tawana Brawley guy from loony liberal MSNBC was dancing naked on a roof top -- the whys and wherefores won't matter, because the don't want them to matter.

Sorry if you can't understand the very simple point I've now made at least twice: if the MAINSTREAM media outlets with tens of millions of viewers DAILY will not pick up the story and promote it (where is Sensata? Hmm?), how is a show with such relatively low ratings as Al Sharpton's stand a chance of changing the world? Simple question, and pointing it out sure as hell doesn't make me, who has been on DU for 9 years and nearly 25,000 posts, a Freeper. Sheesh.

(4,276 posts)After five presidents over a century failed to create universal health insurance, President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act (2010). But what the GOP remembers is that our President is not white.
President Obama signed the $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in 2009 to spur economic growth amid greatest recession since the Great Depression. Weeks after stimulus went into effect, unemployment claims began to subside. Twelve months later, the private sector began producing more jobs than it was losing, and it has continued to do so for twenty-three straight months, creating a total of nearly 3.7 million new private-sector jobs. But what the GOP remembers is that our President is not white.
President Obama signed the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (2010) to re-regulate the financial sector after its practices caused the Great Recession. The new law tightens capital requirements on large banks and other financial institutions, requires derivatives to be sold on clearinghouses and exchanges, mandates that large banks provide living wills to avoid chaotic bankruptcies, limits their ability to trade with customers money for their own profit, and creates the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to crack down on abusive lending products and companies. But what the GOP remembers is that our President is not white.
President Obama ended the War in Iraq and ordered all U.S. military forces out of the country. Last troops left on December 18, 2011 But what the GOP remembers is that our President is not white.
In 2011, President Obama ordered special forces raid of secret compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, in which the terrorist leader Osama Bin Laden was killed and a trove of al-Qaeda documents was discovered. But what the GOP remembers is that our President is not white.
President Obama saved the auto industry. But what the GOP remembers is that our President is not white.
President Obama repealed Dont Ask, Dont Tell. But what the GOP remembers is that our President is not white.
In March 2011, the USA joined a coalition of European and Arab governments in military action, including air power and naval blockade, and Moammar Gaddafi was toppled. But what the GOP remembers is that our President is not white.
President Obama signed the Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility, and Disclosure Act (2009), which prohibits credit card companies from raising rates without advance notification, mandates a grace period on interest rate increases, and strictly limits overdraft and other fees. But what the GOP remembers is that our President is not white.
President Obama signed Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act in 2009, giving women who are paid less than men for the same work the right to sue their employers after they find out about the discrimination, even if that discrimination happened years ago. But what the GOP remembers is that our President is not white.
President Obama signed Hate Crimes Prevention Act (2009), which expands existing hate crime protections to include crimes based on a victims sexual orientation, gender, or disability, in addition to race, color, religion, or national origin. But what the GOP remembers is that our President is not white.
President Obama signed 2009 Childrens Health Insurance Authorization Act, which allows the Childrens Health Insurance Program (CHIP) to cover health care for 4 million more children, paid for by a tax increase on tobacco products. But what the GOP remembers is that our President is not white.
All they care about.....is that our President is not white....clear and simple.

Preibus and Romney are racists too. Even though "some of their friends are black"!
You don't have to wear a white hood and lynch people to be racist. Anyone promoting Obama as "the other" or somehow different from an American is essentially towing a racist line.
It may not be the ONLY thing they don't like about Obama, the color of his skin, but it is definitely the most prevalent. I'd say it's #1. #2 being he's liberal.

If these idiots just settled down long enough to listen to his message instead of looking at the color of his skin they might change their minds as to who will make the better decision concerning social security, health care etc. When I see some of the black republicans speaking out against him and his policies I wonder just what planet they are from. Do they not know of the past racist hatred that existed, and it appears still does. How do they look the other way and continue to align themselves with the racist GOP?

I simply cannot fathom how anybody could be so wicked as to assume one's skin color makes another human being inferior!
Here the radical right racists yell out vile "Go back to Africa" hate messages, having no fear of being called out for their disgusting comments. In the name of decency and democracy, this sleazy action should be attacked in the news media as headline material exemplifying the horror of haters laughing at the most debasing dialogue a human being can devise.
