Court will hear Ariz. case on voter registration

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court will take up an appeal from Arizona over its requirement that people prove they are American citizens before registering to vote.

The justices on Monday said they will review lower federal court rulings that blocked the law.

Those courts said that federal law trumps the Arizona requirement. Federal law allows voters to fill out a mail-in voter registration card and swear they are citizens under penalty of perjury, but it doesn't require them to show proof as Arizona's 2004 law does.

bullshit voter suppression crap is upheld it will give more credence to the American citizens who do believe in "Freedom" and "Democracy" to get out and vote so at least one of these asshole justices can be replaced with a justice that believes in America and its people and the Constitution.

'While the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld Arizona's right to require voter identification at polling places, the court in April found that the citizenship requirement conflicted with a 1993 federal law designed to make it easier for people to register to vote in federal elections by using a federal registration form.

The state requirement and the federal scheme did not "operate harmoniously," the appeals court found, so the federal rules won out.

On appeal, Arizona argued that the 9th Circuit owed more deference to the state's authority to administer federal elections.

The Supreme Court on Monday granted Arizona's appeal without comment.'

IMO Supremes will affirm 9th circuit's finding of conflict with federal law, and decision won't happen until spring if then. Between now and decision, Court has to set briefing and argument schedule.
