Almost 3,000-year-old tomb of female singer found in Egypt
CAIRO Swiss archaeologists have discovered the tomb of a female singer dating back almost 3,000 years in Egypt's Valley of the Kings, Antiquities Minister Mohammed Ibrahim said on Sunday.
The rare find was made accidentally by a team from Switzerland's Basel University headed by Elena Pauline-Grothe and Susanne Bickel in Karnak, near Luxor in Upper Egypt, the minister told the media in Cairo.
The woman, Nehmes Bastet, was a singer for the supreme deity Amon Ra during the Twenty-Second Dynasty (945-712 BC), according to an inscription on a wooden plaque found in the tomb.
She was the daughter of the High Priest of Amon, Ibrahim said.
The discovery is important because "it shows that the Valley of the Kings was also used for the burial of ordinary individuals and priests of the Twenty-Second Dynasty," he added.

They were still doing that act in the fifties on tv.

(30,250 posts)I have seen old films of vaudeville and music hall acts, but I wasn't familiar with this duo. They were very good and seemed to have had a long run (they finally retired the act in 1963).

Anyway, I was trying to find more on this story and many news agencies reported it being 1,100 old but with the same dates said in this story. I had to do a double take..... but AFP was right.

It says nothing about ordinary people. The daughter of the high priest would be firmly entranced in the 1%.

This reminded me of a photo that a VERY OLD Italian friend brought to one of the Italian language clubs that I am an organizer of.
The photo showed an ancient woman that was wearing a BIKINI more than 2000 year ago !!!
At the moment I can not remember if the image was from Italy or Greece but it did prove that 'bikinis' existed more than 2000 years ago

No it doesn't show that ordinary individuals were also buried in the Valley of the Kings.
It shows that celebrity worship in ancient Egypt was very like celebrity worship today!!
Now if her hair stylist was buried in the V of the K's, I'd say the 99% scored a victory!
