Walsh: Vote Republican or Lose Your Job

Source: NBC Chicago

Rep. Joe Walsh last weekend told business owners last weekend that if there were ever a year where they needed to "energize" their employees for the election, it's this year.

And he told them to let their staffs know they could be out of a job if they don't cast a vote for the Grand Old Party.

"Spread the word," Walsh boomed. "If you run -- if you run, own or manage a company, tell your employees. "What was the CEO this week that said, if Obama is re-elected, I may have to let all of you go next year? If Obama's reelected, if the Democrats take Congress, I may not be able to cover your health insurance next year."

Walsh, who is in a intense battle for Illinois' newly-redrawn 8th Congressional District against Democrat Tammy Duckworth, was referring to David Siegel, the founder and CEO of timeshare company Westgate Resorts. Siegel last week sent a note out to his employees telling them that four more years of an Obama Administration threatens the growth of his company and, therefore, their jobs.

Lies, voter suppression and now vocally encouraging businesses to engage in flagrant acts of voter intimidation. The Republicans 2012 election theme appears to be the embrace of indentured servitude where American citizens must sacrifice their basic freedoms in exchange for a basic livelihood. Republicans are quick to defend the rights of corporations ("corporations are people, my friend&quot , but are ready to encourage the abrogation and sacrifice of such freedoms for political advantage.

Talk about the hypocrisy of the Tea Party.

"The economy isn't going to recover until we get that socialist Obama out of the White House"

She went on to say that business owners were afraid, they all know Obamacare is going to break the economy, and no bank anywhere is going to start lending money again until after Romney is elected.

I can't report that I came back at her with some clever remarks, because I was so shocked I didn't know what to say to her. And what was really interesting was we weren't even talking about the election, we were talking about a mutual friend whose mother just died and she seems to be taking it pretty hard. I said I was concerned that she seemed very depressed and this lady said "Well, these are hard times for lots of people. And the economy isn't helping". Then she dropped the comment about the socialist Obama.

I think republicans are so desperate they are insane, especially in MO where the ones who are voting for Akin are too embarrassed to admit it out loud. realized later I should have brought up Akin in this conversation. Maybe I will next time I see her.

Imagine how stupid you would have to be to believe all their bullpucky.

You should have asked the lady how good of job Bush did creating jobs....

Tell her if we had one more year with a Republican in charge America would look like Somalia, and she should be thankful Obama took the job of cleaning up Bush's mess.

It's incredibly hard to get through to them. The pain web that's been orchestrated by hate radio and faux news makes these mostly older people just hang on to their small world they think is crashing around them caused my the evil god haters. Do the hate radio guys really have any idea what fear and pain they cause in the lives of American citizens who see them as righteous? Do they have any idea the false education they put in the minds of the gullible and fearful? If they don't, they are disconnected from the real world. If they do, they are pure sociopaths.

It would be the last thing I'd ever want want to see. My sincere hope is that we can overturn citizens united and get the democratic process back into the hands of the people. But make no mistake, these men mean to rule us. Left unchecked, some time in the future, I don't know when, they will enslave the common people. The for profit private prison industry is a good example of how they operate.

As of now, they are using their power to intimidate voters. Sheer thuggery at its worst. The question before us now is, how do we deal with them?

Frankly, when you push someone to vote one way or the other, my guess is they actually resent it. And will probably do the opposite just to make their point. I don't know anyone who would feel intimidation from above would make them more likely to vote with them.

I worry that some of these bosses are the type to actually demand a cell-phone photo of the filled-in ballot in the voting booth to prove their loyalty. THAT'S what I worry about.

No body in their right mind will stand for that. It will backfire. I would vote every possible choice that opposes that bosses "mandate". It's is truly a fascist tactic.

If a boss demands photos of the voting, he won't have a business. He will be sued to hell and end up in jail.

regarding this. These idiots have no way of knowing how their employees actually vote, so I'm assuming if President Obama wins, especially locally, these guys will fire everyone and shut down their businesses? How completely insane. The treasonous behavior by many politicians, and now, employers, started with Clinton, and has reached a fever pitch with a mixed racial president. "Taking our country back" is a serious objective, and NOT in the way the crazy teabaggers mean it. There are many sane political and public figures who need to pay serious attention and deal with this. The Constitution and the founding fathers provided ways of addressing this, but we have a very forgiving definition of "treason" these days.

If Obama was so bad for the economy and force these changes then these people would already have lost their jobs. Instead, over the last 31 months over 4 million new private sector jobs have been created. In other words, just the opposite has happened.

Thu Oct 18, 2012, 12:47 PM

unions (usually in the interest of labor), newspapers endorse a candidate. i've never heard a union threaten or force a union member to vote for the endorsement. a newspaper may endorse a candidate, so what are they going to do? tell their customers if you don't vote for our candidate we'll refuse to deliver the paper?

the unions at one time had over thirty per cent membership, and labor did well. unions today are under ten percent and the media still makes them into the big bad threat when they're barely hanging on. now, that's to help the plutocrats and it has worked big time.

with little boot's obscene tax cuts, especially to his wealthy friends, they have become even more greedy, less patriotic, less empathic. the some CEOs in this country, like walsh, make disgustingly large quantities of money even if the company is not faring well. CEOs in this country make way more than other industrialized countries, to me, it's actually embarrassing. but, these plutocrats have enjoyed their tax breaks even when they off shore jobs and acquired even more wealth at our expense. they don't want the greed fairy to take it away, even if their policies hurt the american people.

any voter who believes the bullshite intimidation is delusional because either under robme these cretins will still ship your job overseas or take away any labor right you have-or if the president is re-elected and they pass the job bills that the repugs have been blocking or pass the business incentive for hiring american workers with no incentive for those who ship jobs overseas, you'll still have more of a chance keeping your job under the president.
