Apple loses UK tablet design appeal versus Samsung

Source: BBC news

Apple has lost its appeal against a UK ruling that Samsung had not copied the design of its iPad.

A judge at the High Court in London had originally ruled in July that Apple's copyright had not been infringed by the Galaxy Tab 10.

He also ordered Apple to run adverts saying that Samsung had not copied it.

Judge Birss said one notice should remain on Apple's website for at least half a year while other ads should be placed in various magazines and newspapers to "correct the damaging impression" that Samsung was a copycat.

at the original event the judge was visibly annoyed that anyone would have the cheek to effectively patent a rectangle with rounded corners. After the case was found against Apple , the effect of which was an EU wide ruling, Apple took out an injunction against Samsung in Germany. That annoyed our judges even more and they retaliated by adding the order that Apple must publish an apology to Samsung.

I sincerely doubt that any of the dna patents etc now being taken out in the US would pass muster here.
