Former speaker Newt Gingrich campaigns for Todd Akin

LEE'S SUMMIT, MO (KCTV) -
Missouri Republican Todd Akin is getting a boost from a big name Republican in his last week of campaigning.

Akin's camp said the congressman has been out spent 10-1 in his Senate campaign. People with his camp said it's grassroots efforts and big name backing from people like former House Speaker Newt Gingrich that's kept Akin in the game.

"One of the main things that you're probably noticing we're using is just getting around and talking to people because we've been out-spent by a tremendous amount in terms of television advertising," Akin said.

That's why Gingrich is in the metro Tuesday and Wednesday helping Akin in the last week push to Election Day.
