Rupert Murdoch: Chris Christie Must 'Re-Declare' For Mitt Romney 'Or Take Blame'
Source: Huffington Post
Publishing titan Rupert Murdoch sent New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie what appeared to be a warning message on Friday, telling Christie to reaffirm his support for Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney "or take blame for next four dire years."
The admonition, by way of a tweet from the Murdoch's verified Twitter account, was presumably in reference to the warm relationship Christie, a Republican, showed with President Barack Obama this week, as the two toured New Jersey in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
Christie has been one of Romney's highest-profile campaign surrogates, and delivered the keynote address at August's Republican National Convention. As recently as last week, Christie was on the campaign trail, berating Obama as an ineffective leader.
That partisan posturing seemed to disappear entirely as Hurricane Sandy bore down on the East Coast.

(10,303 posts)AFAIK, a naturalized citizen can still have their citizenship revoked and be stateless (though Murdoch would automatically regain Australian citizenship if he hasn't denounced it anyway - funny British-like laws where your place of birth will never let you go stateless). I don't know what the procedures are, and this is all hypothetical anyway.

(9,314 posts)"Australian-born Murdoch became a US citizen in 1985 just so he could own more media here. The Reagan administration appears to have fast-tracked his citizenship, and Reagan started the relaxation of ownership rules, allowing a few media giants to own more and more stations and newspapers. In return the corporate media, Fox being a major culprit, conducted a long-running and ongoing campaign to make this very bad president into Saint Ronald. Later on, News Corp. told the IRS that it was foreign-owned (to save on taxes) while telling the FCC that it was true-blue American (since it couldnt own all its stations if it were otherwise). The GOP success in the 1994 elections derailed a possible congressional investigation."
http://scrutinyhooligans.us/2011/07/23/rupert-murdoch-american-citizen/
Clinton did make his share of mistakes (as well of course achieving a good deal of success in other areas) so it just seems appropriate not to blame Murdoch's citizenship on Clinton when it looks like it was Reagan who greased the wheels for that as well as taking steps to allow media giants to own more and more stations.

(81,466 posts)reign of nightmares.
It used to be that any one corporation or person or entity could only own THREE media properties in any one market (metro area). So it usually meant an AM, an FM, and a TV station. Then all of a sudden, the brakes were off. And this greedy buying and vulture-ish acquisition was unleashed. Ma and Pa stations were being snapped up by corporate carnivores who assembled big networks of stations that then started laying off masses of people and cookie-cuttering the programming, cloning it in multiple markets. Cheaper! Saved money! All those salaries and benefits you didn't have to pay anymore! Whoopeeeeeee!!! I was still working on radio then and a lot of my friends started losing their jobs. You'd have the same damn syndicated shows everywhere with no local radio and local personalities and surprise and uniqueness and experimentation in the programming. Diversity, they said! YES this will serve the local listeners beautifully! No problem!
Soon enough, as AM turned to talk programming because it couldn't compete with the audio quality of music on FM, you suddenly found the cloning of wrong-wing extremists from coast to coast. limbaugh got started that way, and a little success always begets a whole shitload of copycats everywhere. More stupid, short-sighted, thoughtless "Me-too" shit monopolizing our public airwaves by the minute. They were smart, those corporate planners and strategists. And our Dems were busy taking nice naps while this was going on, believing the reassuring lies and just SURE the bad guys weren't REALLY gonna act like bad guys, and the carnivores were suddenly going to switch to lettuce-only diets.
Hell, we saw Obama and his campaign fall for that YET AGAIN, as recently as the first Presidential debate. Take a nap. It'll be okay. Meanwhile, the bad guys are up, wide-awake, making trouble, and planting an awful lot of poisonous seeds. And they never consider even switching to decaf.
With adversaries like this, we can NEVER afford to drop our guard, even for a weekend!!!! Look what happened when we failed to fight broadcast deregulation.

(8,968 posts)Christie's momentary suspension of partisan politics in favor of cooperation in the aftermath of a large-scale of disaster should be viewed as a positive event. If it does reflect well on Obama (or Christie for that matter), it's solely because these individuals were doing the jobs they were elcted to do. The performance of elected officials largely determines whether constituents decide to keep them in office, or otherwise. Staying within the tight confines of political talking points and refusing to work with those on the other side of the aisle is a recipe for failure. Fortunately, this was not the case and Murdoch et al should get over it.

Gov. Chris Christie said that in areas without electricity, voting would again be "old school."
"You walk up, get a paper ballot, fill it out and hand it back in," he said.
With paper ballots to be counted, the governor said some races might be more suspenseful.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie defended his praise for President Barack Obama's support after superstorm Sandy, but said he would stick with his Republican ticket and vote for Mitt Romney in this Tuesday's election.
"The fact of the matter is what New Jerseyans expect from their governor is to work for them, not to work for any particular political party," Christie told Israel's Channel 2 television in an interview broadcast on Sunday.
"I'm a Republican and I have endorsed Mitt Romney, I support him and I intend to vote for him on Tuesday," said Christie, interviewed in his home state by a visiting Israeli television reporter.
